PSC winter concert

Stars come out for Palestine Solidarity Campaign's Winter Concert

Television and West End stars will be coming together in December to perform for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) in a fundraising Winter Concert.

Anna Carteret (best known for her role as Inspector Kate Longton in the long-running BBC series Juliet Bravo), David Calder (who has just finished playing Polonius in a Young Vic production of Hamlet) and Andrew Jarvis (who played Gandalf in a West End production of Lord of the Rings, before going on to star in The Woman in Black), will all be treading the boards in support of PSC.

They will perform Seven Jewish Children by the acclaimed playwright, and PSC patron, Caryl Churchill. This short play is a moving reflection on Israel's attack on Gaza in 2008/9 and was first performed at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in February 2009.

The poet and writer, Jean 'Binta' Breeze, who has performed on the London stage, as well as writing and performing for Channel 4 and the BBC, will be performing two of her poems, Isiah and Love Amidst the War.

And international musicians Nizar Al-Issa, Chafik Kobitti and Samar Al Murr, will be playing together as the Layali Tarab Arabic Band, with a repertoire ranging from Palestinian to Lebanese music, as well as Egyptian, Iraqi and Moroccan numbers. The musical element will be completed by festival regular, Denis Fernando, playing some of his own classical piano compositions.

Journalist and writer, Victoria Brittain, will compere the evening.

Sarah Colborne, director of campaigns and operations at PSC, said: 'We're absolutely thrilled that so many stars will be performing in support of PSC and the Palestinian cause. The boards will be creaking under a wealth of talent on what promises to be a night to remember.'

PSC's Winter Concert is on Tuesday 7 December at the Polish Centre, King Street, Hammersmith.
