India's ruling Congress party began three days of soul-searching on Saturday as it goes through its roughest political patch in the six years since it was returned to power. The party's plenary session comes as authorities probe what could be India's biggest corruption case -- a mobile phone licensing scandal which cost the nation 40 billion dollars in lost revenue.Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray Saturday tore into Rahul Gandhi for his alleged remarks that "radicalised Hindu groups" may be a bigger danger than Islamist terrorists.

Radical Hindu units bigger threat than LeT: Rahul Gandhi
According to WikiLeaks, Rahul Gandhi told Timothy Roemer that the 'growth of radicalised Hindu groups' is a bigger threat than Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Speaking to newspersons here Saturday, Modi said Rahul's comments only helped Pakistan.

"Through the WikiLeaks expose, it has been revealed who has given all the information to the US. Now, it is clear why the US is backing Pakistan ," Modi said.

In a similar reaction here, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray questioned Rahul's credentials for commenting on Hindu terrorism and advised him "not to act too smart".

"Who is Rahul Gandhi," he demanded, adding that he need not point out Rahul's "Italian connections".

Thackeray also warned the Congress leader against attacking Hindus, saying that failure to do so would mean that "they would retaliate and tackle him by the horns".

Rahul last year told US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer that "the growth of radicalised Hindu groups" may be a "bigger threat" to India than support to some Islamic terror groups from the Muslim community, according to diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks.

Rahul told Roemer that although "there was evidence of some support (for Islamic terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba) among certain elements in India's indigenous Muslim community, the bigger threat may be the growth of radicalised Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community", the Guardian reported Friday.

A group of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists burnt Rahul's effigy near the Congress party district office in Thane Saturday afternoon, shouting slogans and carrying placards.

A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks against radicalised Hindu groups hit the headlines, BJP today demanded a statement from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the utterances by the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

BJP General Secretary Vinay Katiyar alleged Rahul Gandhi's remarks "betrayed his lack of knowledge of Indian culture."

"Hindus cannot be terrorists. They have always practised tolerance and harmony", he said.

Alleging Congress was responsible for rise of terrorism in Kashmir as also of the activities of Maoists and ULFA, Katiyar said "Rahul should know that during Rajiv Gandhi's prime ministership, there were LTTE training camps at eight places in India."

"I ask Rahul Gandhi, his mother (Sonia Gandhi) and Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) why were 7,000 Sikhs killed in 1984? Congress is a terrorist party and has no right to be in politics. It should be banned," Katiyar told a press conference in Kolkata.

A Wikileaks cable released yesterday claimed Gandhi had told US Ambassador Timothy Roemer that radical Hindu groups could pose a 'bigger threat' to India than terror group LeT.

Katiyar demanded a statement from the Prime Minister on Rahul Gandhi's remarks.

Strongly condemning the remarks by Rahul, Katiyar charged "it will give a leverage to the LeT and the ISI. It is intended to save Afzal Guru (from capital punishment) and to have Ajmal Kasab released (from jail)."

Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, India's most powerful politician, is due on Sunday to address the meeting, laying out her electoral vision for the party, which is marking the 125th year since its foundation.

Gandhi, who has held the Congress top job for the longest time in the party's long history, was thrust into the limelight after her husband, former premier Rajiv Gandhi, was killed by a suicide bomber in 1991.

Central to the meeting, being held in New Delhi and being attended by around 1,750 party activists, is expected to be a resolution declaring "zero tolerance" on corruption.

"It is a painful fact that corruption seems to be widespread and I feel strongly it is our responsibility as well as that of each and every political party to together, seriously, devise a way -- a mechanism -- to curb this growing menace," Gandhi said this month.

Another resolution is expected to focus on steps to strengthen the party nationwide following its humiliating electoral drubbing in the eastern state of Bihar.

Gandhi, who engineered the party's surprise victory in the 2004 general elections, is expected to spell out the party's strategy for a slew of assembly elections next year in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry.

The plenary session comes amid a row involving Rahul Gandhi -- widely seen as an Indian prime minister-in-waiting -- who said he believes Hindu extremists may pose a greater threat to India than Islamist militants, according to a leaked US diplomatic cable.

Rahul, scion of India's Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty, told US Ambassador Timothy Roemer last year there was "some support" among Indian Muslims for militant groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba -- blamed for the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

"However, Gandhi warned, the bigger threat may be the growth of radicalised Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community," said the cable released by website WikiLeaks.

The opposition Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party has been quick to pounce on Rahul Gandhi's leaked comments, with spokesman Prakash Javdekar accusing Gandhi and the Congress party of "bias."

US wants India, Pak to reduce tensions: White House
WASHINGTON: The US wants India and Pakistan to reduce tensions between them, the White House has said, insisting that the Obama Administration would continue to encourage the two countries to improve their ties.

"The tensions between the two countries are something that the President discusses with each country when he's visited leaders in India or called leaders in Pakistan. And he will continue to address that and take steps to ease any of that tension," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said at his daily news conference yesterday.

Gibbs also noted Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's remarks on Thursday, when she said how important it was that Pakistan took seriously the threat from extremists inside its territory and redirected forces to meet that threat.

He said that there is much work to be done on taking the steps that are necessary to address the safe havens that continue to exist in Pakistan.

Separately, State Department spokesman P J Crowley said: "First of all, how Pakistan decides to deploy its military forces is a decision for Pakistan. We've made no secret of our desire to see Pakistan take more aggressive action against extremist elements within its own borders,"

"That is a threat to Pakistan itself. And as the Secretary said, we have seen Pakistan shift its emphasis away from the Pakistani-Indian border and more aggressively to the Swat Valley and other areas where these extremists operate. And no military has suffered more significant casualties in undertaking these operations than Pakistan," Crowley said.

"But these were obviously decisions for Pakistan to make. But the context of increasing dialogue and reducing tensions between Pakistan and India is something that we have stressed in our dialogue with both countries," he said.

The State Department spokesman said India has legitimate interest in helping with the future of Pakistan.

"It has contributed significantly to development and reconstruction projects within Afghanistan. And this should - we encourage that activity, even as we stress the importance of dialogue between India, Pakistan, Afghanistan , other countries. So no efforts like this are misunderstood," he said.

Obama pushes for nuke treaty ratification

WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama is warning that failure to ratify a new arms control treaty with Russia will undercut American leadership on scores of challenges it faces worldwide.

Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday to plead with the Senate to approve the treaty, a dearly held foreign policy priority in the waning days of Congress' lame-duck session.

Obama said without action on the pact, known as New START, ``we'll risk undermining American leadership not only on nuclear proliferation, but a host of other challenges around the world.''

``Ratifying a treaty like START isn't about winning a victory for an administration or a political party,'' the president said. ``It's about the safety and security of the United States of America.''

Although the White House and Senate Democratic leaders have expressed confidence about prospects for ratification, the fate of the treaty is uncertain in the Senate, where it requires a two-thirds vote for passage. Senators are juggling it along with other contentious issues

Obama wants to see completed before Congress recesses for the holidays, including a repeal of the ``don't ask, don't tell'' policy on gays in the military, and time is fast running out. Senators debated the treaty into the night Friday, with Republicans raising concerns that it would limit U.S. missile defense options, something the White House strongly disputes.

The treaty, signed by Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in April, would limit each country's strategic nuclear warheads to 1,550, down from the current ceiling of 2,200, and establish a system for monitoring and verification. U.S. weapons inspections ended a year ago with the expiration of the 1991 arms control treaty.

All 58 senators in the Democratic caucus are expected to back the treaty, but it needs Republican votes to reach the necessary 67 votes. A number of Republicans are supportive, but others continue to express reservations, despite entreaties from the Pentagon and prominent Republicans outside Congress, including former President George H.W. Bush.

``Every minute we drag our feet is a minute that we have no inspectors on the ground at those Russian nuclear sites,'' Obama said. ``It's time to get this done.''

New Delhi:  The Congress began its 83rd plenary session here Saturday with top party leaders finalising the draft resolutions to be adopted, which are likely to include the party's projection as one with a 'pan-India existence' and asking the government to probe the terror links of right-wing groups, like the RSS, party sources said.

Party chief Sonia Gandhi chaired a meeting of the subjects committee to finalise the political, economic and foreign affairs resolutions which will be moved and adopted during the three-day event.

Party sources said the political resolution will lay stress on the Congress being 'the only national party which has a pan-India existence'.

It will also touch on issues of probity in public life and the internal security challenges facing the country.

According to sources, some members suggested that the links of right-wing Hindu groups, like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), with terror should be 'seriously investigated'.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh attended the meeting, which lasted almost four hours, along with senior leaders, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A.K. Antony and party treasurer Motilal Vora, at the Parliament House Annexe here.

The sources said that Congress members from Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura wanted that the resolution should not talk of the Left parties 'as other opposition parties' but name them specifically. Kerala and West Bengal face assembly polls next year and Left parties are the main political rivals of the Congress in these two states.

The sources said the resolution will also discuss the role of the Congress in various states.

'The emphasis would be to project the Congress as a national party which also caters to regional aspirations,' a senior Congress leader told IANS.

Party sources said the 2G spectrum controversy is expected to find a mention in the context of probity in public life. The party is also to mount an attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not taking decisive steps in Karnataka despite allegations of nepotism against state Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The situation in Jammu and Kashmir, cross-border terrorism and threat of Maoist violence are also likely to find a mention in the political resolution.

It is expected to mention the achievements of the first United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and the tasks ahead of the present government.

The sources said that the resolution on the Congress completing 125 years will trace the party's history and is likely to mention the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and earlier prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and party president Sonia Gandhi.

While the economic resolution is expected to emphasise inclusive growth, the foreign affairs resolution will speak about the growing role of India in the global affairs, party leaders said.

The next two days of the three-day plenary session will be held at a sprawling tented township in Burari in northwest Delhi and is expected to be attended by 1,250 All India Congress Committee (AICC) delegates and around 15,000 other leaders and party activists.

The Delhi plenary is being held at a time when the Congress-led government is facing a series of corruption scandals and controversies.

While the political resolution and the statement marking the culmination of 125 years of the party are expected to be moved on Sunday, the economic and foreign affairs resolutions are likely to be moved Monday.

Gandhi will set the tone of the deliberations in her presidential address Sunday morning.

Delhi is hosting the Congress plenary for the first time in 32 years. Indira Gandhi, then in the opposition, presided over the last session in Delhi in 1978.

The Subjects Committee includes members of the party steering committee or the working committee, chief ministers, state Congress chiefs and Congress legislature party leaders.

India's over 150 million Muslim population is largely unattached to extremism, US diplomatic cables have said, endorsing India's vibrant democracy, inclusive culture and nationalistic nature of the minority community. "Separatism and religious extremism have little appeal to Indian Muslims, and the
overwhelming majority espouses moderate doctrines," Former US envoy to India, David Mulford said in a cable released by whistle blower website WikiLeaks.

"India's growing economy, vibrant democracy, and inclusive culture, encourage Muslims to seek success and social mobility in the mainstream and reduces alienation.

With Indian Muslim youth increasingly comfortable in the mainstream, the pool of potential recruits is shrinking, while Muslim families and communities provide little sanction or support to extremist appeals," the cable said.

India is home to a wide variety of extremist groups, including religious extremists (Hindu, Muslim and Sikh).

The vast majority (of Muslims) remain committed to the Indian state and seek to participate in mainstream political and economic life, it said.

"India's vibrant democracy, inclusive culture and growing economy have made it easier for Muslim youth to find a place in the mainstream, reduced the pool of potential recruits, and the space in which Islamic extremist organizations can operate," the leaked WikiLeaks cable said, according to Guardian.

Although there are a wide variety of Islamic religious, political and social organizations, most Muslims join or support secular groups without a specific Islamic identity.

No exclusively Muslim organization has succeeded in mobilizing more than a small portion of the Muslim faithful.

India's vibrant democracy has ensured that the large Muslim community has a voice in politics and recent elections have demonstrated that Muslim voters are courted actively by political parties, the leaked cable said.

"With a Muslim President (APJ Abdul Kalam) occupying the highest political position in the country, Muslims have been encouraged to seek political power in electoral and parliamentary politics, all but eliminating the appeal of violent extremism," the cable added.

India's secular education system increasingly integrates Muslim students into the mainstream and has spawned a growing and prosperous Muslim middle class.

The cable said, "Young and dynamic Muslims are popular culture heroes in sports (Sania Mirza) and Bollywood (Sharrukh Khan and many others). The message for young Muslims is that they are Indians first and Muslims second, and that they can fully participate in Indian society and culture and win the adulation and respect of other Indians, regardless of religion."
Rahul Gandhi's WikiLeaks remarks behind US' Pak tilt: Narendra Modi

MUMBAI: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday alleged that inputs provided by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that "radicalised Hindu groups" could pose a bigger threat than outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba were responsible for the "pro-Pakistan policies" of the US.

"Now it is clear who was prompting USA to speak in favour of Pakistan," Modi said, reacting to US diplomatic cables released by whistle-blower website WikiLeaks on Friday which carried Rahul's remarks about radicalised Hindu groups.

"The whole world was convinced that Pakistan promotes terrorism. They train terrorists and terrorism is the biggest export industry for it," he said on the sidelines of a function here.

Modi said he used to wonder why Americans supported Pakistan all through despite the widely acknowledged fact.

"After WikiLeaks' release, it is known who was guiding USA and providing information about Pakistan, based on which America made an opinion about the country...this is the biggest loss for the country," Modi said without naming Rahul.

Asked if he was pointing an accusing finger at the Congress general secretary, Modi refused to comment.

A conversation between Rahul and US envoy Timothy Roemer was released by WikiLeaks on Saturday in which he had said that radicalised Hindu groups pose a bigger threat than outfits like LeT.

Ayodhya title suit: Hindu Mahasabha to approach SC

The Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha has decided to move the Supreme Court challenging the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid title suits , contending that the entire disputed site should be alloted to Hindus.

The Mahasabha will submit that the High Court had erred in directing that 2.77 acres of disputed land be divided into three parts among Muslims, Hindus and Nirmohi Akhara.

"We will be filing an appeal in the Supreme Court on Monday and we will not sit idle till we get the entire disputed land for the construction of a magnificent Ram Temple there," Kamlesh Tiwari, member of the Mahasabha, told a press conference here.

The Mahasabha has earlier filed a caveat to pre-empt any ex-parte order on the Ayodhya title dispute.

The title dispute on Ramjanmbhoomi-Babri Masjid structure has already reached the Supreme Court with Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) and Sunni Wakf Board challenging the Allahabad High Court's verdict.

Challenging the verdict of the High Court's Lucknow bench, the JUH too had submitted in the appeal that the judgement is based on faith and not on evidence.

"It is humbly submitted that the mosque was illegally demolished. However, the ruins still exist. The foundation of the mosque is still intact. Title would not extinguish by demolishing the mosque," it said.

A three-judge bench of the High Court had passed three separate judgements on September 30 but the majority verdict held that the area covered by the central dome of the three-domed structure, where the idol of Lord Rama is situated, belongs to Hindus.

While two judges were of the view that the entire disputed land should be divided into three equal parts, each to be given to Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and the parties representing 'Ram Lalla Virajman', one of the judges had held that the entire disputed area belonged to Hindus.

Earlier, a Delhi MLA Shoaib Iqbal had also filed the appeal in the apex court but the Supreme Court refused to entertain it saying the petition "is misconceived. Hence dismissed."

WikiLeaks: India wants terror info but gives little in return: US
NEW DELHI: India is "very keen" to get information and technology from the US for counter-terrorism efforts but provides "little in return", says a US embassy cable made public by WikiLeaks .

The cable, dated Feb 23, 2007 and reproduced by The Guardian, also came down heavily on Indian security forces, calling them corrupt and poorly trained and said they did not "conduct solid forensic investigations".

The cable explained the American assessment of why New Delhi remained a distant partner vis-a-vis the US on counter-terrorism efforts.

"India's lingering zero-sum suspicion of US policies towards Pakistan, its fiercely independent foreign policy stance, its traditional go-it-alone strategy toward its security, and its domestic political sensitivities over the sentiments of its large Muslim population, have all contributed to India's caution in working with us on a joint counter-terrorism strategy," the cable said.

It pointed out that while "India has been very keen to receive information and technology from us to further its counter-terrorism efforts, India provides little in return, despite our belief that the country should be an equal partner in this relationship.

"India frequently rebuffs our offers of support for their police investigations of terrorist attacks and our offers of training and support are often met with a stalled logistical pace."

Making another point, the cable said it had to be kept in mind that "our perception of India's lack of cooperation on US CT (Counter Terrorism) concerns often stems in part from India's lack of capacity to manage these issues bureaucratically".

It said that Indian police and security forces were "overworked and hampered by bad police practices, including the widespread use of torture in interrogations, rampant corruption, poor training, and a general inability to conduct solid forensic investigations.

"India's most elite security forces also regularly cut corners to avoid working through India's lagging justice system, which has approximately 13 judges per million people.

"Thus Indian police officials often do not respond to our requests for information about attacks or our offers of support because they are covering up poor practices, rather than rejecting our help outright."
"She presents an intriguing enigma of a warm private personality that remains concealed and is available only to her closest confidants and family members."

India using terror as 'propaganda tool', says Pakistan

Pakistan on Saturday accused India of using terrorism as a "propaganda tool" against it, and said tensions between the two countries would continue till just solutions are found to long-standing disputes like the "core issue" of Kashmir.
"I must with regret say that India is using terrorism as a propaganda tool against Pakistan and there is a long history to this. This is a strategic plank they have used against Pakistan," Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said.
The two countries have long-standing issues, including core issue of Kashmir, and "tensions will continue in some form or the other till there is a just solution" to these problems, Mr. Bashir said in an interview to Aaj News channel.
Mr. Bashir made the remarks while responding to questions on Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's silence on the Mumbai terror attacks during his recent visit to India and Pakistan's expectations about the role that China could play in easing tensions with India.
Pakistan had condemned the Mumbai incident and "cooperated totally" with India in the probe into the terrorist assault, he said.
"There is no need to make this issue a propaganda tool. If Indian media is raising this, the Indian leadership should make the people aware of the reality," he said.
"Terrorism is not a localised disease, it is a big global issue. There is no other example around the world of a country prosecuting the anti-terror campaign as effectively as Pakistan," Mr. Bashir added.
Contending that there was widespread concern about human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Bashir said: "We want the composite dialogue process and the full peace process to be resumed".
"This has not been possible for different reasons. We hope that bilateral process of composite dialogue is resumed (because it) is necessary".
India had suspended the composite dialogue process in the wake of the Mumbai terror attack and Pakistan has been insisting that it be resumed.
Mr. Bashir further contended that a "wrong impression" has been created that "India is in a different league" in terms of its "nuclear programmes or exemptions given to India", whereas Pakistan is "being linked to the Afghanistan problem".
He said, "It's quite clear that this impression is false. Pakistan, India and other countries in South Asia and the region's population of over one billion people cannot be geographically separated," he added.
"If we want development, peace and cooperation in the region, it is imperative that Pakistan and India, which are important countries, should understand their responsibilities and resolve their problems on the basis of equality and mutual respect," Mr. Bashir said.

Dalit Voice completes tumultous 30 years — & also gets a breather

On Jan.1, 2011, Dalit Voice will complete 30 years — a record in the history of India's English journalism suffering from a high mortality rate.

In the middle of 2010, we had fears of "Closing down DV" because the educated Dalits who forgot their own Father, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, did not stand by DV. They were too eager to flirt with Brahmins even while getting kicks after kicks, insults after insults. We called them "slaves enjoying their slavery". We don't think any other part of the world has such shameless slaves.

In our June 1, 2010 issue our Editorial announced: "To continue DV or not? Family members must decide". The DV family had already become so thin that even bones were visible. And yet some shameless educated Dalit officials are more interested in eating the stinking Brahminic shit of their oppressors but not the rich feast in Babasaheb's burning thoughts.

Gems in DV family: The half-year long Debate on "Closing down DV" in which most of our members participated revealed the class-caste character of these stooges.

Sorry for these harsh words. But they are true. Our own Father had said this just before his death.

There is no longer any anger in the Dalit world. The "educated" Dalits threw cold water on the little fire in the uneducated, poor Dalits.

That does not mean the entire DV family is rotten. Not at all. We have many gems which are revealed in the long Debate. They are really shining and they are our only hope.

Alas, our Father wanted the educated Dalits to be the leaders of Indian revolution. But they proved to be first-class bum-lickers.

Enemy of Brahminic monsters: Yet, with all these serious problems — external and internal — DV survived. This proves Justice and Truth shall always triumph.

Brahminism has been the country's most hated poison ever since the Aryans entered India. And it continued to be so even to this day. DV has been the deadliest enemy of this monster.

But even such a mighty enemy could not kill the tiny DV.

DV had never hesitated to speak out the Truth (what we considered as Truth) and support Justice, even at the cost of our life. The series of Letters published in DV, from our members inside and outside India, have proved our commitment to the cause of Babasaheb.

DV gets a breather: With some little money that trickled in and a 10% of our members paying the enhanced subscription, we hope DV will get a breather.

Will DV's rebirth take it to its desired destination?

We appeal to our defaulting ordinary and life members to be kind enough to pay up the balance and restore DV to full health.

"Media centre" remains a dream: But our dream of shifting to Delhi to set up a "Media centre" remains unfulfilled. This proves that the country's over 85% slaves — SC/ST/BCs and Muslim/Christian/Sikhs, plus the women of all upper castes — will continue to remain slaves under the corrupt plus tyrannical Brahminic rule.

This very micro-minority Brahminic forces remain as the rulers unchallenged, milking the country — the world's most corrupt — dry.

DV alone in this country has the courage and the stamina to speak out the Truth and fight for Justice. We are happy that we got this testimony from our family members during the six-month long "Closing down" Debate.

Lifeless country rotting in corruption: When our courage, stamina and the willingness to fight the Enemy are proved, why not we be given a chance to start the "Media centre"? For this there is no answer. It is silence. This is worrying us.

It is now proved that the Brahminic rulers have killed our very faculty to think by poisoning our brain with their cursed Hinduism. The rulers have not only poisoned us but made the whole country lifeless — impotent.

Just imagine a mere 2% Brahminists controlling this country of 1,300 million — the second largest in the world.

On one side they have made the country stinking corrupt — top to bottom. Not one wing of the society — whether govt. or private — is spared. It is wholesale corrupt. Their religion itself is corrupt, stinking.

Where is the future for this "Hindu India"?

India as a failed state

It is now as clear as the day light. "Hindu India" has become ungovernable. Chaos has set in. Brahminism is eating the people alive. The caste system, held tight under its fist, is not allowing the small fish to even breathe. No honest, thinking person can raise his head. Corruption has killed the country. PM is also involved. Total failure of foreign policy. All-round violence. Failure of all political parties. Defence, judiciary, media have turned crooks. Every wing of the society has collapsed. Despicable religious leaders cheating innocents in the name of god and religion. We have predicted all these long, long back. India has become a failed state (V.T. Rajshekar, DSA-2004). You can't ensure social justice unless the caste system is destroyed. Only people's revolution can save India. But Hinduism has killed even our anger.

RAHUL SUMAN CHHAWARS, MAHABODHI MARG, GAUTAM NAGAR, AJMER, RAJASTHAN - 305 003

I just read a copy of Dalit Voice. I was a Budhist monk in Burma (1952-53). On return I left my robes and got married to a girl, Miss Quin Moi Thain, living in the Chinese Budhist family of Mukteswar, Nanital dt., Uttarkhand. My family is the 1st Budhist family of Rajasthan. I met Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in 1951 at his residence. I was then the secretary to the Youngmen's Budhist Association. He also invited me to witness his ordination in Oct.1956. Our Maha Bodhi Society, Calcutta, was active in that programme. About 1,100 years ago the words Hindu and Hindustan never existed. Muslim invaders gave these names to Bharat and its residents. Prior to this Brahmins were called Vedics, Pauraniks,Shaivs, Shakts, Vaishnavas, etc. When Budha preached his Dhamma, his followers were called Budhists. Vardhaman became Jain Mahaveer. His followers were called Jains. Europeans called us Indians. Bharat became Hindustan. Thereafter, it became India. Don't you think a Debate is necessary in Lok Sabha and the media on these four words, Hindu, Hindustan, India and Indians? Why can't we be called Bharatiyas and our country Bharat. Hindu means Kafir — one who does not have faith in Islam and Quran and Prophet Mohammad. The word Hindu and its four varnas are the main cause of all the current exploitation, poverty and deprivation. You can have a debate. We don't believe in varnas. We are all inter-caste people. We take education and status in view —not the varna.

"CLOSING DOWN DV" — A DEBATE

Silence of DV members proves intensity of their hinduisation

V.T. RAJSHEKAR

The pitiable situation of India's "educated" Dalits — slaves enjoying their slavery — came out in public in the course of the current Debate on "Closing down DV".

NONE QUESTIONED OUR INTEGRITY

Even when it was announced in DV repeatedly that the 30-year-old English journal, the only leading media of Dalits and other persecuted nationalities of the country, is on death bed, hardly 30% of our family members paid some money.

The contributions were announced in DV and the total amount came to only Rs. 6.15 lakhs.

Till this day none questioned our honesty, integrity and our commitment to the Ambedkarite-Bahujan principles. Over 70% of our members remained silent. They had not even the courtesy to drop a postcard.

More shocking is the silence of family members on our repeated appeal for revised subscription and to pay up Rs. 200. Those who paid it are just 5% of our subscribers but 95% are silent.

LIFE-MEMBERS

We also had appealed to our life members that the very survival of DV is under threat and requested them to pay Rs. 1,500.

But hardly 11 people responded.

Educated and employed Dalits should have been the torch-bearers of Dalit movement. But these are the very people who betrayed our own Father and the Father of India. We are not surprised by their silence.

D.V. COMPLETES 30 YEARS

That even at this stage when DV is completing 30 epoch-making years their hearts are not melting. This is what is worrying us. We can imagine the deep Brahminic injection that hinduised these non-Hindu children of Babasaheb.

No wonder 2% Brahminists are ruling India, corrupting the whole country on one side and devastating it on the other.

No wonder our enemy oppressor is silently enjoying the fall and the slow death of the only thorn in its flesh. The state of affairs of DV tells how the "Hindu India" is simply dying.

Muslim failure

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: Only about 10% of our DV family is Muslim, India's most hated community and victims of Brahminic war and violence — killed in thousands.

We have gone out of the way to support Muslims despite opposition from a section of Dalits.

Dalit-Muslim unity: We support Muslims not expecting anything from them. We have written lots of books on them. Addressed scores of Muslim gatherings in different parts of India. Dalit-Muslim unity movement was pioneered by DV. The Pakistan Govt. invited us every year successively, three times as leader of the delegation to its Dr. Ambedkar Birthday celebration.

Despite all this contribution to the Muslim cause, even being dubbed as "Muslim agent", barring a couple of Muslims, DV got hardly any support.

Daily killed: Yes, we do know that Muslims are very badly divided. Brahminists divided them. Poverty-stricken, pushed to slums, dubbed anti-nationals and killed as terrorists — daily. But DV stood by Muslims because we know they are all converts from the SC/ST/BC Bahujan Samaj. And it is our duty to support our family. Our enemies and their enemies are the same.

Thinking Muslims have gone to the extent of saying that "DV is India's best Muslim journal".

Yet hardly 8% of our Muslim family members responded to our SOS. Muslims, unlike the hinduised(enslaved) SC/ST/BCs, are an alert people, disciplined people. Yet with all the qualifications Muslims did not respond to our call having fallen victim to the very same Brahminic money-driven society.

VTR did his best but it is we who failed

GURNAM SINGH MUKTSAR, 2- BHAGAT SINGH NAGAR, B/H BUS STAND, MUKTSAR - 152 026

Since 1981, I have been very close to Dalit Voice. For over 25 years I have struggled in the socio-political movement led by Kanshi Ram. But the fact is I learnt much more from DV and VTR.

I had urged Kanshi Ram many a times to get VTR to the Rajya Sabha because VTR was the only one capable of exposing the truth in parliament. He is the only intellectual/scholar to faithfully write and speak on problems of Bahujans. I know the fate of BSP. VTR cannot be a mass leader. He is an intellectual. He is the only person after Babasaheb who exposed the Brahmin and Brahminism and made its crimes known beyond the Indian borders. None can match his thoughtful struggle.

The problem is with the DV readers who are chaotic in their mind-set.

Great Dalit historian: We could not find even 100 writers or reader-workers to make DV a mass movement. Does it prove the failure of VTR or DV? For 30 long years he provided us the best of food for thought to destroy Brahminism. He left no corner of Brahminical body unattacked. He spoke only the truth. What more truth can be there for Bahujans to know? It was our duty to flourish the DV idea. VTR will be recorded in history as a great Dalit historian after Babasaheb.

I approached Kanshi Ram to support Dalit Voice and later approached BAMCEF. I tried to gather 100 DV "intellectuals" to back VTR. But could reach nowhere.

Is VTR responsible for all this? He has done his duty very honestly and so perfectly. None can match his work.

VTR's caste: Today only I read that VTR is not a Dalit but a Backward Caste "Bunt". Naming his caste may be an attempt to blacken his greatness. Periyar E.V. Ramaswami, Sri Narayana Guru, Sant Namdev, Jotirao Phule, Shahu Maharaj, Sant Tuka Ram were all OBCs like VTR. They all have written their sufferings as victims of Brahmins and upper castes. Any man insulted and persecuted for his caste is a victim. He may be a Shetty or Ezhava, Mali or Kunbi.

Guru Nanak and his ten descendants, who fought and died for Bahujans, were all upper caste Khatris. They all fought Brahminism till their last breath.

All the SC/ST/BCs come under the shudra category. We were not SC/ST/OBCs before 1932. We were all touchable and Untouchable oppressed castes before 1919. During the Mourya rule we wereshudras only. This is the ultimate truth. The Brahmin Parasuram killed all the Kshatriyas. Every Kshatriya king had to present his queen to the Brahmin guru. None were safe. "Shetty VTR" also took his caste humiliation.

India's problem is not economic: I was born an Untouchable. But with the blessings of Babasaheb and the constitution I have gained a sound living.

India's problem is not economic. Is Brahminism an economic problem? Shahu Maharaj was a king. Why was he insulted by the Brahmins? Why a Brahmin kicked Chattrapati Shivaji at the time of his coronation? Why Periyar fought against Brahminism despite being an OBC like VTR?

Great warrior: If any one criticises VTR by referring to his OBC "high caste", he is consciously creating confusion on our Editor's historic fight against the only real enemy of the country. VTR's war against Brahminism is known to the whole world. He is a great warrior of Bahujans. But he is a sad man today. Because we continue to love slavery. We follow the very enemy against which he is fighting.

Some of us read books to know the Truth but rarely make any effort to get at the Truth. We have thousands of organisations in the name of our great saviours. But all of us work for our Enemy and divide ourselves. We call ourselves Ambedkarites but worship the enemy gods at home.

3,000 year-old slavery: VTR knows the truth that all these people are mentally slaves. Their mental slavery did not start yesterday. It is a 3,000-year-old slavery. Except the English rule none tried to liberate them. Our knowledge is the fruit of the English rule.

Mass media is needed for a mass movement. Dalit Voice has done sincere service for generations of mass movement. But we failed to support VTR.

We are a bunch of slaves. VTR tried his best through DV and his books to free us from this mental slavery. The Brahminic enemy is more powerful to neutralise the anger produced by VTR.

The vast knowledge provided by the DV will definitely help us revolt one day. DV is like a mighty tree which will take years to bear fruits. Babasaheb died a sad man. Every greatman dies like that only. We all will die sad. But we should not give up the right path of our salvation. VTR should continue in whatever circumstance.

VTR is not responsible for any failure. It is the mistake of the slaves who are responsible for our existing situation. (gurnam.singh.muktsar@gmail.com)

India has no future : Brahminism killed our anger & destroyed the country

This country has absolutely no future.

Long, long back the British intellectuals had made a deep study of India and come to the conclusion that Indians (barring Muslims and Sikhs) were good slaves — fit enough to be ruled by others.

Their fears have come true. Brahminists are now riding the slaves and milking the country dry.

When lot of thinking DV members had given their mite, Brother Gurnam Singh did not contribute anything.

We have done our best in the given circumstances. We can take the horse up to the water. But the drinking part has to be done by the horse only.

"Educated" Dalits have also become intellectually corrupt — cutting each others throat — at the behest of Brahminists. The Ballan saints, particularly Surinder Dass Bawaji, know us very well. They have tons of money. But they won't give it. Brahmins cunningly divided Punjab, destroyed Sikhism and further enslaved Dalits.

Brother Gurnam has close relationship with the Ballan people and yet you did not do anything.

Our dedicated, honest DV family members are all weeping about the fate of DV and pleading us to keep it running. But financially we are crippled. Circulation has fallen. Tell us what to do.

There is nothing wrong with Brahmins. As rulers they are ruling. Because, we have allowed them to rule. What right we have now to question their rulership?

We are dejected. We have no money even to go to Delhi where we have 2-3 urgent work pending — EDITOR.

Dalits donate money to enemy Goenka but not DV

DR. GANESH G. RAMTEKE, AKANKSHA APTS., SARASWATI VIHAR COLONY, RING ROAD, TRIMURTI NAGAR, NAGPUR - 440 022

I have been with DV since last three years and after reading it, I came to know that our slaves are still sleeping. They donate money to Goenka but not to DV. When the Debate on priesthood started, DV published in July 1, 2009 my article under the heading, "When Dalits failed to liberate Bodh Gaya how can they capture Hindu temples?"

I have just read (Nov.1, 2010). Dr. Vasant Mhaske, Cardiologist of New Bombay, my senior, saying Dalits are doomed. You have said "Who can save those who do not get angry with BSO?"

Our Father, Dr. Ambedkar, the most angry person, taught us to get angry against exploitation and Brahminism (Hinduism). Even then from thousands of years we are enjoying our slavery. Dr. Ambedkar and Periyar E.V.R. loved knowledge (study-education) more than their wives and children. I have already paid for annual subscription (Rs. 300) but sending the Rs. 4,700 please accept.

I really want DV to continue. Unless SC/ST/BCs and Muslim/Sikh/Christian comprise 85% of Indian population join hands Brahminism cannot be uprooted.

We must get angry and support DV. Long live VTR.

Lalit Kumar, C-Subhash Park, Uttam Nagar, New Delhi - 110 059: I have sent my contribution towards the Dalit Voice for the month of Nov, (Rs. 1,000).

Shreenath Jena, Qt. No. 407, IMMT Campus, Bhubaneswar: We are collecting some money for DV from our readers and will soon send it. We cannot afford to live without DV.

Dr. K.S. Sudhakara Rao, Physician, Paderoo, Vizag dt. - 531 024: We are greatful to Dalit Voice as you have been the real lion on the Indian soil.

On "magnanimous Brahmins"

K. PRAKASH, TGT (M), JAWAHAR VIDYALAYA, CHIKKAJOGIHALI, BELLRY DT. - 583 126

In your comments to my Letter, "DV offers nothing but criticism of Brahmins" (DV Oct.16, 2010, p.18), you have said that the Brahmins may compromise economically and politically but not on socio-cultural things. You are wrong.

If you were right then several religions would not have coexisted in India along with Hinduism. In fact the Brahmins have produced a vast treasure-house of spiritual knowledge for which there is no parallel on earth. In spite of this many more religions, ideologies and even critical literature on Brahmins exist in the society right from history. This is only because of the magnanimous Brahmins and their magnanimity. Even Dr. Ambedkar would have been in a corner if Nehru had not appointed him chairman of the constitution-drafting committee.

********

Dr. Ambedkar's selection

Brother Prakash is like any other Brahmin. The problem with the Brahmin is he does not want to learn anything new and forget anything old. That is why the Brahmins have not produced even one single revolutionary or even one honest intellectual. After the "independence" of India, the Brahmin rulers headed by Nehru were desperately searching for an expert to draft the constitution. They could not find one among the galaxy of foreign university-qualified Brahmins then available. Finally Benegal Narsing Rao, a Saraswat Brahmin ICS officer from coastal Karnataka, then working in Delhi, was asked to search others. It was he who picked up Babasaheb Ambedkar. He told Kashmiri Brahmin Nehru that Brahmins could not produce a genius of that order. As for your praise of the "magnanimous Brahmins", the history is full of their magnanimous violence that tore India to pieces and made India a beggar country. About 30 years of reading DV has not made even Prakash magnanimous. The Brahmins today find themselves in a serious crisis which is their own making. Let the Brahmins save themselves first before selling their "magnanimity" to others — EDITOR.

I am from the Pakistani-administrated Kashmir and working in Pakistan. A friend asked me to go through your website. I found it much more informative and came to know that how the Dalits have been suffering in India. I condemn the caste system. No one is superior by colour and race. I am interested in your book, Why Dalits Hate Hinduism? and I could not find it in Pakistan.

Private sector no to Dalit quota : DV warning comes true

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: The slogan of "Reservation in private sector" was deliberately raised by the Brahminic rulers and their agents — never to be implemented but to fool the "educated" Dalits who have already betrayed Dr. Ambedkar.

The private sector is the citadel of the upper castes, the most determined enemies of the Dalits. All Ambedkarites know this fact because this 15% ruling class not only sabotaged Dr. Ambedkar becoming India's first PM under the leadership of M.K. Gandhi, but killed the very constitution of India drafted by the "Father of India".

DV prediction proves right: In Dalit Voice we had said all this time and again and yet the so-called "educated Dalits" were fooled by their very enemy — because they are willing to be fooled. Quite a number of educated Dalits are the stooges of this enemy. The "national" toilet papers devoted so much of space to fool those willing to be fooled.

The Editor Dalit Voice was invited to three such "national workshops on Dalit reservation in private sector" in Delhi. In all the three meetings the Editor had categorically said the rulers would never, ever allow Dalits to enter the private sector. How can they tolerate Dalit entry into their corrupt empire, the fruits of their exploitation, when these very rulers had sabotaged the constitutional reservation to SC/STs as mandated by the constitution?

The Brahminic "captains" of industry had roped in the "Khatri Sick" PM, himself the enemy of Dalits, to fool those willing to be fooled. His involvement in the "Spectrum scandal", which resulted in the dismissal of an innocent Dalit Minister A. Raja, shows his closeness to the Ambanis.

Racketeers among Dalits, particularly those running the bogus NGOs, were the loudest in arranging "seminars on private sector reservation". What happened to all these stooges today? Why nobody is speaking?

Gandhi killed separate electorate: Finally, it is now curtains on this much-hyped private sector reservation. CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM have said no even to 5% reservation.

The fear is if the "dirty dark-skinned Untouchables" are allowed into the close preserve of the holy Brahminic sanctum sanctorum, the upper caste racists would not like it and might start quitting.

The Brahminic people have been consistent in their anti-Dalit Apartheid policy. They have never made a secret of their hatred. Their own Mahatma went on a hunger strike against separate electorate for Dalits as early as 1932. The Gujarati Bania's racist stand on Dalits remains unchanged.

The "Khatri Sick" PM and his henchmen fooled the Dalits by secretly opposing the private sector quota — which they never meant.

It was meant to fool those willing to be fooled. And some stooges among Dalits were purchased to shout their slogans and fool the Dalits.

This should once for all make it clear that the 15% Brahminic rulers are not ready to compromise on the caste system which is the other word for their Hindu dharma. They are ready to dump their religion but not the caste system.

PM in Ambani pocket: All the top industrialists are Brahmins and Banias — may be a few shudraenterprises. The entire corporate sector is built on fraud. Everything is manipulated. It is this sector which controls the country's print and electronic media.

The Ambanis, the Gujarati Bania enterprise, have the free access to the PM any time.

All their corruption and crony capitalism will come to light once Dalits are allowed into this tightly held Brahminic citadel.

At least now our lambs must stop thinking of sleeping with the wolves. And start an all-out war on the Enemy.

**********

Dalits neglected in India

New Delhi: Udit Raj, heading the All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations, launched a chariot procession from Jantar Mantar on Nov.23 to create awareness among lakhs of Dalits for participation in the rally to be held on Nov.29 for reservation in private sector.

Reservation in private sector and demand for affirmative action was included in the minimum common programme at the time of UPA Govt. formation in 2004. A Bill for reservation was presented in Parliament in Dec.,2004 but ignored.

The numbers of educated people have increased but govt. jobs have decreased due to privatisation. In 1997, there were 62,000 employees in Income Tax Dept. for about 1 crore tax-payers. Now, there are 47,000 employes for over 3.25 crore tax-payers.

When reservation for deprived persons is available in America, Malaysia and many countries in Europe, why India is neglecting its Dalits?

Lalu lost for cheating Muslims but pleasing enemy castes

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: The blue-eyed boy of the Brahminic rulers is Nitish Kumar, leader of a tiny OBC Kurmi jati. They did everything to see their boy was crowned. Not only he won but some predicted he would be the future PM. What happened to their blue-eyed boy Rahul Gandhi who ate dust in Bihar? The rulers will never love a person unless he is a proven enemy of the oppressed communities. Nitish has passed their test. Lalu was never loved by the Enemy. That is why they rejoiced and distributed sweets. Lalu ,however, got his jati (Yadava) votes but not the Muslims whom he cheated. Lalu never heeded our repeated warnings. We had seen great potentialities in him but he failed. But those Brahminist dancing over Nitish victory must know he won by a margin of mere 3% votes. The ruling alliance got 38.8% but Lalu's opposition vote share was 36%. A mere 3% margin is no victory. Yet it is a win.

India's great demographic divide

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: India is the world's only country having the caste system, which is the other name of Hinduism, with hundreds of castes, subcastes, sects, communities, religions, languages, deities, skin colour, customs, rituals, food habits, cultural diversities, climatic variations. To sum up India is like "Million Mutinees". Chaotic.

Never a nation: The Govt. of India's Anthropological Survey (ASI) headed by K.S. Singh, IAS, had identified 2,800 castes. It called India "a collection of castes and communities".

In other words India is not a nation. And never was it a nation.

Mandal Com. estimate: The Mandal Commission (1980) itself had proposed a list of 2,399 Backward Castes of which 903 alone then accounted for about 11.5 crores.

The 2001 SC population was 16.60 crores about 16%.

The STs accounted for 8.20%.

These are official figures which cannot be believed as many SC/STs declare themselves "Hindu" for official purposes while remaining SC/ST at home.

Broken mirror: Even the 15% minority Hindus are divided. Brahmins have hundreds of castes, including some Untouchables. So too the Kshatriyas (Thakurs) and Baniyas. The shudras have manyjatis and sub-jatis. It is chaotic.

"Hindu India" is like a broken mirror. Is it possible to join the broken mirror — forget about seeing your face in such a mirror? A broken mirror cannot be repaired. It has to be discarded.

India thus becomes the world's most baffling, mind-boggling land.

The Brahminists tried to drag their road-roller (Hinduism) on these conflicting diversities and called itHindu Rashtra. But the machine is not working. Nobody is following the dictates of the micro-minority Brahmins — who boast about India's great "unity in diversity" and yet secretly work for the country's destruction.

Every state, every district, every taluk, is divided — torn into pieces. India was never one "nation". And never will be.

The British were the first to "unite" the country but even then hundreds of princely states functioned as autonomous units.

The moment the British left, the country got divided and the fellow who "brought independence" to India was shot dead by a Brahmin "nationalist".

Hence the need for all our family members to remember India's great demographic divide.

Religion in India is not important because each religion is also caste-divided. Even the tribals are divided into sects.

Muslims may be one religion but divided into hundreds of biradaries (sects).

Hence, DV members must make photocopies of this article and distribute it widely.

They may even frame it and hang it on the wall — for all the children to study and visitors to see.

We have been repeating these figures since decades but none questioned it. Not even the enemy. However we need your suggestions.

"Terrorism" will stop when Jews stop their war on Muslims

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: President Obama and other Western leaders are repeatedly asking the Muslims to stop "terrorism" so that they can call off their "war on terrorism".

There is lot of hypocrisy on this newly popularised term "terrorism". The Western war on terrorism is nothing but a war on Muslims — plain and simple.

This war is nothing but a zionist conspiracy carried out by the Western Christian leadership at the behest of Jews.

This is because all the Western Christian countries are controlled by the Jews with the help of their money power, media and Christian stooges.

Even a child knows it.

Muslims refused to be fooled: It is the American Jews, who control that country and managed Obama election. It is they who managed to make him utter sweet words to Muslims at Cairo and elsewhere.

But the Muslims refused to be fooled. The Jewish engineered war on Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq resulted in disastrous defeat of US.

Obama later tried to fool the Muslims on Palestine. But here also he failed because the zionist Jews are not prepared to budge even an inch on Palestine.

Any amount of his pouring milk to the serpent is no use. Serpent will continue to bite Obama.

China on top of world: Western Christian leaders, led by the US which is controlled by its 2% Jews, are defeated in their war on terror. The Jews with their monopoly over the media, have launched a hurricane of Islamophobia. But nothing is working.

Rise of Iran: The disgusted Jews got Obama defeated in the recent Congressional elections. Nor are they giving any opportunity for him to succeed in Palestine.

China has already come on the top of the world and USA is getting weakened. With the defeat in Afghanistan, USA is preparing to pack up.

Iran is fast becoming a nuclear power and its political power has expanded with Iraq coming under its sway. Turkey turning against West is another big defeat for the West.

If the Western Christian rulers, who are still in the grip of Jews, are tired of their war on terror, the only way-out is to call halt to Islamophobia.

The zionists, repeatedly getting disappointed with the Western Christian rulers, are naturally furious. This is one of the causes for the economic decline of USA and also UK. And perhaps EU.

Our fear is zionists are determined to take revenge on the whole of West if it does not come out in full support of Israel — which means all-out war on Iran.

But the "Jews of India" are not reading the writings on the wall. It is still holding on to the tail of USA (and Jews) without realising that it is a sinking ship.

China has expanded his influence all over the world. Within an year it is going to be the world's no.1 economic power.

Anti-zionist front takes shape: China, Iran, Russia together with all the Muslim and African countries — even Latin America — are fast coming together to become the world's strongest bloc. The Blacks of Africa — the victims of White racism, will never go with the West. Already China has established full influence on all the African countries.

Germany, the worst victim of the zionists, is fast coming up. Already it is the richest in Europe.

What Bahujans can do: The Jews and the "Jews of India" are gradually getting totally isolated.

Bahujan leaders of India belonging to the SC/ST/BCs and Muslims must wake up and prepare themselves to confront the fast-moving global changes.

That is why we have been repeatedly telling that internally we have no hope but the fast-moving international developments are very much in our favour.

Power of caste & roots of corruption

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: See the power of caste in India.

Hinduism, the so-called "religion" of the rulers, is a bundle of castes. This "religion", if it can be called so, is used to bundle up the "low castes" and bludgeon them to submission. This is the meaning of Hinduism.

In the ultimate analysis what matters is the caste. Brahmins, the presiding caste over this bundle of castes, are a micro-minority of just 2%. But they created the castes to bundle up the whole lot of SC/ST/BCs and those above — Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudra — so that they stand tall above all these castes and call themselves the "lords of the land".

RELIGION OR CASTE ?

Here is a TOI report to prove our point:

Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's confidence in defying the BJP bosses' purported orders to put in his papers stems from his trump card: being a Lingayat. In the past, wounded and hurt Lingayat leaders managed to stir emotions resulting in vengeful politics.

For, Lingayats constitute 22% of the total 5.5 crore of Karnataka's population. The community's clout runs in 80 of the total 224 assembly constituencies with North Karnataka, where the districts are the most backward.

The Lingayats may be 22% of the state population but they are not a "caste" but a religion called Veerashaivas (Lingayats) which comprises all sorts of castes from top to bottom. When it suits the upper castes among the Lingayats, they call themselves a religion separate from Hinduism.

The "low castes" among Lingayats are all SC/ST/OBCs and BCs who continue to remain where they were before conversion. Lingayat lords, however, are converts from upper castes.

MOST CORRUPT CHIEF MINISTER

The whole thing is chaotic.

The Karnataka politics is dominated by the Lingayats in which only the upper caste Banajigas, Jangamas, Sadars count. The other converted "low castes" are Lingayats only for purposes of bloating their jati population.

Anybody studying the problem of caste in India will go mad.

Those interested in the power of caste may order our book, Caste — A Nation Within the Nation (V.T. Rajshekar, Books for Change, Bangalore, Rs. 140. Copies available with DV).

Karnataka's most corrupt Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, belongs to this caste — his crimes fully blessed by the entire Brahmin gods, Lingayat Swamis and even other upper castes.

As long as the caste system continues, corruption can never be curbed.

VOKKALIGA OPPOSITION

When the princely Mysore state was being merged in the larger Karnataka at the time of states reorganisation, another dominant caste, Vokkaligas, which lost power, agitated against the merger fearing Lingayat domination. Their fears came true. Almost all Chief Ministers were Lingayats. Joining hands with another exploitative caste, Brahmin, they formed the Brahmana Jati Party (BJP) and made Yeddyurappa CM, a real worm in the shit called Brahminism who proved to be India's most corrupt CM.

But no upper caste religious leader or swami will say this in public.

Hinduism is the other name for corruption.

Brahminism & corruption

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: The all-round solid support Karnataka's most corrupt CM, Yeddyurappa, got from the entire godmen who control the Brahminic world, should once for all convince us that corruption is the other name for Brahminism.

All these godmen are sitting on mountains of money, generously donated by all such corrupt rascals. More corruption means more money to Brahmin temples.

Intellectual corruption: All the powerful godmen like the Pejawara Swamy, Dharmastala Hegde, "Sri Sri" Ravishankar, Shankaracharyas and the richest of the lot, Satya Sai Baba, the king of the frauds, have all blessed the CM and promised to stand by him.

The Lingayat swamis went on a strike to defend him. Not a single Brahminic "intellectual" was so far spoken against the CM.

What is the conclusion? Brahminism will never, ever let down its jatwala whatever may be his or her crimes. Yeddyurappa is the standing proof.

Hindu India as world's most violent state

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: "Hindu India" is advertised as a land flowing with milk and honey, wedded to peace and non-violence where Budha, Gandhi reigned and made it a model for the whole world to follow.

This is pure propaganda — bullshit. The facts of history are entirely different.

In this so-called "secular democratic" India, pogroms against all the three significant "minority communities" like the Muslims (15%), Christians and Sikhs (2.5% each) are a daily dose.

Why Muslims opted for partition: The very partition of India (1947) took place because the then dominant Muslim community, which had a sizeable population in the undivided India and ruled this country for 800 to 1,000 years, said it could no longer live with the hate-mongering Brahminical Hindu rulers and opted for Pakistan.

During the partition riots Muslims were recklessly slaughtered. The undivided Punjab, which was a predominantly Muslim-majority state, witnessed the worst violence against Muslims (Dr. Sarfraz H. Mirza, Hindu-Muslim Confrontation, 2009, Lahore, photocopy available Rs. 125).

Gujarat genocide: "Independent" India's first biggest bout of violence against Muslims occurred in a well-planned attack during the Babri Masjid demolition. Thousands died.

The second biggest was the massacre of 2,500 Muslims in what became famous as the "Gujarat Genocide" (2002).

The massacre of over 12,000 Sikhs (men, women and children) was ordered at the instance of a great Hindu Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, when she sent Army tanks into the Golden Temple, Amritsar in 1982. (V.T. Rajshekar, Turmoil in Punjab, DSA-2010).

The killing of Sant Bhindranwale and his band of dedicated Sikh disciples was well-planned by the Brahminic leadership to break the backbone of Sikhs, and dub them as terrorists so that the domination of brave Sikhs in the Indian army is once for all finished.

The Indian army today is an all-Hindu affair fully, mired in corruption.

Christians (2.5%), the most peace-loving among the three minority communities, got a wonderful taste of the Hindu ahimsa in Orissa.

Only the violence against non-Hindu "minorities" are detailed above. The violence of the Hindu rulers against their own "Hindu" SC/ST/BCs (65%) is a daily affair. But the only difference is this violence is inflicted in a most non-violent way.

And yet our Hindu heroes go on boasting of their non-violence. No. Hindu India is the world's most violent state.

Why Godse Killed Gandhi ? The book needs a revised edition

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: Our "most explosive book", Why Godse Killed Gandhi? (1997) by V.T. Rajshekar, has gone into three revised editions (all sold out) and created history.

The Father of India, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar had described Gandhi as the "Enemy No.1 of Untouchables". We have extended it and called Gandhi as the enemy of entire Bahujan Samaj (85%).

Every word in the book has proved correct, every prophecy proved right.

HONEST ENEMY

Hindu terrorist parties hate Muslim/Christian/Sikhs (all our blood brothers) as the enemy of Hindus. But the Gujarati Bania called Muslims and Christians as brothers but ditched them. Between the two, the Hindu terrorists are more honest.

Always the honest enemy is better than a dishonest friend.

The Indian ruling class calls Gandhi as the "Father of the Nation" (not our nation). China has called Mao as the father of their nation. Mao made China a super power — soon to become the world's no.1 power. But India is becoming a beggar nation.

If Mao is to be given credit for what China is today, the same credit must go to Gandhi for what India is today.

DR. AMBEDKAR AS OUR P.M.

Gandhi said he stood for non-violence but his every action was violent. His going on a fake hunger strike (1932) against Dr. Ambedkar's proposal of separate electorate, upheld by the then British govt. was shot dead by Gandhi thereby reducing the SC/ST (30%) as slaves of Hindus.

But for Gandhi's conspiracy, Dr. Ambedkar would have been the first prime minister of India.

Both Dalits and Muslims lost and the country got divided. Muslims who remained in India became weaker and third-class citizens. Gandhi handed over the country to Brahminists — installing a fake socialist as India's first PM.

PHILOSOPHICAL TREATISE

The moment their job was done, the Brahminists shot dead their own "Father of the Nation" and celebrated it by distributing sweets all over India.

The Editor and the author of the book, V.T. Rajshekar, had met Gopal Godse, the younger brother of Nathuram Godse, at Pune and congratulated him for the clean job he did.

All this and many more highly philosophical issues are discussed in this book hailed as philosophical treatise on "independent" India's sordid, sorrowful 64 years of Brahminical rule of blood and tears.

There is a big demand for this highly investigative book in India and abroad — from the dwindling thinking sections.

We will be glad if any in our DV family agrees to bear the cost of the reprint — which will be a revised edition — raising the total pages to about 150.

R.S.S. INVITATION TO EDITOR

The book was translated to Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam and Kannada. We are not aware of any translations to other languages.

On reading the second edition of the book RSS Brahmin leaders came to our office to express their pleasure. They invited the Editor to their annual "celebration" of Gandhi death anniversary (Jan.30) by distributing sweets.

The Editor declined the invitation. He told them that they had already proved untrustworthy as any speech he delivered would be twisted.

Those interested in reading more about the ugly life of the "Mahatma", we have a number of books, the latest being Ved Mehta's Gandhi & His Apostle, on his sleeping naked with young girls.

China defeats USA

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: As "Hindu India" is sinking all-round and the different sections are busy quarreling, the country has gained fame as one of the worst corrupt, China, which became independent two years after India, is fast becoming the No.1 world power. Read the following report from the world's No.1 anti-communist Jewish-owned US daily:

A Chinese scientific research centre has built the fastest super-computer ever made, replacing the US as maker of the swiftest machine, and giving China bragging rights as a technology superpower. (New York Times - Deccan Herald, Oct.29, 2010).

MICRO - FINANCE

How did blood-suckers fall in love with poor?

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: Brahminical castes are world-famous blood-suckers. They are experts in squeezing you dead the moment they get an opportunity. How did these suckers suddenly fallen in love with the "poor"?

The opportunities are plenty because the innocent, hard-working, unconscious SC/ST/BCs (65%) can be easily squeezed and their blood sucked. This is a centuries-old game.

This is what happened in the latest blood-sucking operation called micro-finance, mostly confined to AP resulting in over 80 deaths — mostly the poorest women.

The culprit is the latest blood-sucking game is a micro-finance company headed by a top sucker, a Telugu upper caste, Vikram Akula, a multi-millionaire, whose company SKS Micro-Finance is supported by the Bangalore's Big Brahmin, Narayana Murthy, with a heavy investment (Rs. 30 crores investment).

RBI silence: The Reserve Bank, the Brahminical media led by the Times of India, and the entire ruling class is defending Akula's blood-sucking game.

But the AP MLAs, political leaders have forced the state govt. to act quickly. No arrests have followed till now because those in support of the blood-suckers are our rulers.

The commercial banks may be owned by the Govt. of India on paper but run by the very blood-suckers. That is why they confine themselves to the urban rich — leaving the field free to the Akulas.

What if the "low castes" die? They are worth dying. This is the Brahminical philosophy of the Akulas who get full support from the govt., media and the ruling class. Till the time of writing Akula is freely moving around, fully defending his blood-suckers.

MFI is the latest instrument of the Brahminists to keep our people enslaved.

THUS SPAKE PERIYAR

Gandhi opposes people's agitation in Kerala

Even though Rajah treated me as a guest, I participated in a number of meetings supporting the Vaikom agitation. I criticised the evil practice of untouchability. I said that such a God that would feel polluted by the mere touch of an Untouchable does not deserve to be at the temple. Such an idol should be removed to be used for washing clothes. By my propaganda more and more people were eager to join the agitation. More and more people came forward from different places. It became a problem for the Rajah. Yet he remained silent for five or six days. Many complained to him, about my speeches. Rajah could not ignore any further. So, after ten days, he permitted the police official to promulgate PC 26 which is similar to that of Sec.144 here.

There was no other go for me than to defy the ban. Accordingly I defied the ban and addressed a meeting and I was arrested. Mr. Ayyamuthu also defied the ban along with me. He was also arrested. We were all sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one month. I was put in Aruvikkutha jail. It was after my imprisonment, my wife Nagammai and my sister S.R. Kannammal and a few others carried on a state-wide propaganda. When I was released, I once again resorted to the agitation.

When I was in prison the agitation gained momentum. Lot of people volunteered to court imprisonment. Intensive propaganda induced the people to encourage the Vaikom agitation. The enemies indulged in hooliganism. Rowdy elements tried their best to create panic, but ended in failure. Even those who were in foreign countries came to know of the atrocities perpetrated here in the name of caste. They volunteered to send donations. Daily, money orders poured in. A big pandal was raised to house the volunteers. Daily, more than 300 people were provided with food. Many planters sent vegetables and coconuts daily. They were pooled together, as small hillocks. It looked like a marriage house.

At that time Mr. Rajagopalachari wrote a letter to me. "Why should you leave our state and create trouble in another state? It is wrong on your part to do so. Please leave it and come over here to take up the charge from me". This was what was contained in the letter. Mr. Srinivasa Iyengar came over from Tamilnadu to meet me. He also tendered the same advice as Rajagopalachari. By that time more than 1,000 people were ready to participate in the Vaikom agitation. There were big processions and Bhajans daily everywhere. The agitation gained momentum.

Sikh support: The news reached Punjab. There Sami Sirathananda made an appeal. He sent about 30 Punjabis to Vaikom. They offered Rs. 2000 as donation and consented to meet the catering expenses for the volunteers. Seeing this, the Brahmins here sent communication to Gandhi. They accused the Sikhs of provoking a war against Hinduism. Gandhi expressed his view. He said that Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and others, who were non-Hindus should not partake in the agitation. In response to his appeal, Muslims, Christians and Sikhs withdrew from the agitation. Rajagopalachari wrote another letter to Joseph George stating that it was wrong on his part to interfere with matters pertaining to Hinduism. But Joseph George did not pay heed to Rajagopalachari's advice. He replied that he was prepared to face expulsion from Congress. He strongly stated that he would not lose self-respect. Mr. Sen, Dr. M.E. Naidu and other leaders stood strongly in support of the agitation. But some people were afraid that Gandhi would write, condemning the agitation and stop the donations. But at that time Sami Sirathananda came to Vaikom and assured of financial support.

The Vaikom agitation was launched in spite of opposition by Gandhi. I was once again arrested and sentenced for 6 months imprisonment. Some Namboodri Brahmins and orthodox Hindus joined together and planned to counter the Vaikom agitation, through what was called enormous "Satru Samhara Yagna" (bonafire prayers for killing the enemies). (To be continued)

WikiLeaks torture cables no surprise: Kashmiri separatists
SRINAGAR: Separatists in Indian Kashmir said Saturday reports in leaked US diplomatic cables that security forces used torture in the disputed Himalayan region came as no surprise.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) provided US diplomats in 2005 with evidence of systematic use of torture by Indian security forces in Kashmir, the cables released by WikiLeaks said.

"There was nothing new. I, too, was subjected to third-degree torture in jails," said hardline separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

"Indian forces have been resorting to inhuman and brutal torture to crush people for the past 20 years", when an armed separatist revolt against New Delhi's rule began, said Geelani , who supports Kashmir's union with Pakistan.

The head of the pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Yasin Malik, said the bodies of Kashmiris bore "witness to the brutal torture most of my colleagues, including myself, were subjected to."

The ICRC told US diplomats of 177 visits it made to detention centres in Indian Kashmir that revealed "stable trend lines" of prisoner abuses. Techniques included electric shocks, sexual and water torture and the incidents always occurred in the presence of an officer.

The ICRC, which met nearly 1,500 detainees, stressed few were militants. The vast majority were civilians "connected to or believed to have information about the insurgency".

The ICRC said it was "forced to conclude the (Indian government) condones torture", but added the situation had improved from the 1990s, according to the cables.

Human rights groups have repeatedly accused India of abuses in Muslim-majority Kashmir.

Kashmir's chief priest and chairman of the region's moderate separatist grouping, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, said the leaks vindicated complaints about torture in Kashmir's jails.

"We've been telling the world for the past 20 years about gross rights violations but the world has been indifferent," he said.

Militant violence in Indian Kashmir has eased since nuclear-armed India and Pakistan launched a peace process in 2004 over the disputed region.

But popular pro-independence protests since June have left over 110 protesters and bystanders -- many of them teenagers -- dead.

India and Pakistan each hold part of Kashmir but claim it in full.

The state's chief minister Omar Abdullah said the US report dated from 2005 when he was not in power and no torture was going on "under his watch."

However, opposition Peoples Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti said Abdullah "should be last man to speak on the issue" with the number of civilian deaths that have occurred in the past few months at the hands of security forces.

Karunanidhi under pressure to bail out DMK

CHENNAI | COIMBATORE: DMK patriarch and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is under pressure to swiftly unveil a bailout strategy to cut its losses in the wake of the CBI investigations into the 2G spectrum scandal.

Political analysts and senior party leaders feel that Karunanidhi alone can do the damage control as he still remains the strong binding force for the party as well as different "power centres" in his large family.

In his long political journey, he has weathered several storms and helped the party survive a number of political crises, including splits, break-up in alliances and exit of top leaders. This time, too, he is expected to get into damage control act ahead of the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Chennai in the first week of January. "We need to wait and watch. But as such Karunanidhi is the only person who can take a decision on this issue," political commentator Cho Ramaswamy told ET.

Till recently, the chief minister's main concern was to continue the alliance with the Congress , preserve unity among warring sections in his family and ensure the return of the party to power after the April 2011 polls. But, the quick turn of events on the 2G spectrum front seems to have upset his gameplan.

It is learnt that both sons of the chief minister — MK Stalin , the deputy CM, who is tipped to succeed his father, and Union minister, K Azhagiri — want the party to distance itself from A Raja, who has brought "disrepute" to the party. DMK sources say that the two sons also want Karunanidhi's second wife Rajathi Ammal, and daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi to stay away from politics. Kanimozhi is a director of NGO, Tamil Maiyam, which was raided by the CBI on Wednesday in connection with the case.

A section of the party feels that Karunanidhi will not hesitate to dump his own family members and ministers if they come in the way of the party's electoral project. In the past, he had sidelined his eldest son MK Muthu and K Azhagiri when they attempted to carve out a space for themselves in the party. Similarly, he had forced former IT minister Dayanidhi Maran to quit his post and distanced himself from him and his brother and Sun T V Network CMD K Kalanithi Maran after a survey was released on the popularity of Stalin, Azhagiri and Kanimozhi and the subsequent violence at Dinakaran daily in Madurai. In fact, the chief minister spearheaded the launch of the rival Kalaignar TV to counter the Sun TV's clout.

DMK leaders have begun de-coupling Raja from the party. "It is his (Raja's) individual problem and he will sort it out before Supreme Court. It will not affect the party's preparations for the assembly elections," the sate minister for Khadi and MLA from Gudalur constituency in Nilgiris, K Ramachandran told ET.

SC asks CBI, ED to submit report on 2G probe by Feb 10

The Supreme Court has order ED a probe into all mobile phone licences issued since 2001, and said it will monitor the investigations to ensure a proper, unbiased probe into a matter that has derailed Parliament and rattled corporates.

It has directed federal agencies to investigate why state-run banks lent nearly Rs 10,000 crore to companies that won 2G telecom licences in 2008, and ordered CBI to find out if telecom ministry officials were signatories to the loan agreements, and if so, with whose permission.

It also asked CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit a progress report by the next hearing on February 10.

The government as well as leaders of the BJP, during whose regime the current policies were formulated, welcomed the court's order. Tata Teleservices welcomed the development while other telcos did not respond to queries from ET.

A two-member bench of the country's highest court directed ED and the income-tax department to continue their separate investigations into the alleged 2G scam . It did not appoint any special investigative team to monitor the probe, as demanded by the petitioners during the hearings, as the government accepted the Supreme Court-monitored investigation.

We welcome the Supreme Court monitoring the 2G probe," Communications Minister Kapil Sibal told reporters in Delhi, adding that the opposition's demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) was to delay the probe into 2G policy since 2001.

The court said the prima facie evidence compiled by national watchdogs—Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)—provided a case for through investigations into the scam. India's national auditor, in its report submitted to Parliament last month, said former telecom minister A Raja, flouted almost every rule in the book, ignored advice from the prime minister down, and indulged in blatant favoritism while awarding mobile licences to mostly undeserving companies, causing a loss of nearly Rs 177,000 crore to the government. This report had drawn upon the findings of CVC, which is looking into the irregularities related to granting mobile permits by Raja in 2008. Raja resigned from the union cabinet last month, two days before the national auditor's report was made public.

The two-member bench of the apex court also asked CBI not to be influenced by any external elements. "The CBI shall conduct the investigation without being influenced by any functionary, agency or instrumentality of the state and irrespective of the position, rank or status of the person to be investigated/probed," said a bench comprising Justice GS Singhvi and Justice AK Ganguly in its order.

The bench also observed that the Delhi High Court had committed a 'serious error' when it dismissed a petition on this issue, especially when the petitioners proved they had a bona fide intent in seeking legal recourse.

In the last two weeks, CBI has conducted a series of raids related to its ongoing probe into the 2G scam. On Wednesday, it had searched 34 places in the Capital and in Tamil Nadu, which included the residences of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, former Trai chairman Pradip Baijal, people closely associated with DMK and firms and alleged hawala operators believed to have acted as conduits in stashing away money obtained from the sale of 2G spectrum in early 2008.

A week prior to that, CBI had raided 14 places such as residences of Raja in Delhi and Tamil Nadu and former bureaucrats in the telecom ministry. The court ordered CBI to file an FIR, with 'particular emphasis on the loss caused to the public exchequer'. It also asked CBI to investigate the gains

made by companies that bagged mobile permits for cheap and then sold stakes at huge profits to foreign firms.

The probe will also include the government's move in 2007 to issue dual technology permits that allowed companies such as Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices to offer mobile services on both GSM and CDMA technologies. It will also examine how some companies had got approvals to use dual technology even before the policy was made public.

The bench also asked income-tax officials to submit transcripts of the tapped conversations of Radia. CBI will probe how mobile permits were granted to a large number of ineligible applicants in 2008 by Raja; determine who was responsible for it; in addition to examining why the regulator nor the telecom ministry had taken action against these companies.

Tata Teleservices said the probe into developments since 2001 would present a holistic picture and also examine how certain companies got disproportionate benefits of excess spectrum. "We welcome the apex court's decision to include the review of the dual-technology policy and its administration, and sincerely hope this would bring about a level playing field between various operators in the telecom space, especially as Tata Teleservices was the first legitimate applicant post the announcement of the policy by the government, which was open to all existing operators," the company added.

A probe beginning 2001 will bring back to focus several controversial policy decisions during the NDA regime. In 2001, the government had permitted telcos to offer "limited-mobility" services using CDMA technology. GSM operators went to court over what they termed as 'backdoor' entry into mobility by their counterparts, forcing the NDA regime to come out with a new policy in 2003 that allowed all fixed-line operators to migrate to a 'Unified Access Services Licence' (UASL) on payment of a fee. This allowed Reliance Infocomm as well as Tata Teleservices, among others, to offer full-fledged mobile services and also legalised their ventures.

BJP's Arun Shourie, who was the telecom minister in 2002 when the UASL regime was unveiled, told ET that he was not able to 'visualise the arguments that have occasioned the order to extend the inquiry to 2001. "The decisions taken then were the subject of extensive examination by the telecom tribunal and the Supreme Court itself, and were upheld by rulings of the former, and judgements of the latter. In any event, the new order is an opportunity to demonstrate how honest decisions were taken by honest persons. And to establish that the department of telecom has not always been led by the Rajas. My only plea is that the new order should not become an excuse to indefinitely delay the prosecution of Raja," Shourie added.

Reacting to the SC order, Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said the government has nothing to hide on the issue. "This is what our government had said (in the Supreme Court)... we have nothing to hide. That's why we wanted the Supreme Court to monitor the CBI investigation," he told reporters here.

Check illegitimate lobbying: Khurshid

KOLKATA: Union minister for corporate affairs Salman Khurshid on Thursday said that though corporate lobbying is a democratic right, but its illegitimate use needs to be curbed.

"Corporate lobbying is nothing illegal and it is a democratic right. But it has to be within legitimate limits," Khurshid told reporters on the sidelines of India Corporate Week organised by Ficci here. Referring to the 2G scam involving corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, Khurshid said, "We are all concerned about corporate lobbying... There is a need to consult among the concerned ministries and also to see whether the existing laws are fit to deal with it," Khurshid said.

He said there was a need to ascertain if a separate law was required to deal with the illegality of corporate lobbying . Also there was a need for a transparency model, the minister observed saying though "this may suggest declaration by corporates about their lobbyists and so on," the minister said.

The Right to Information would also have to be examined whether it covered corporate lobbying. On the Companies Bill, he said that it would be introduced in the Budget session of Parliament.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange fears US may indict him for espionage

LONDON: Julian Assange , the Australian founder-editor of WikiLeaks , is more concerned about being extradited to the US than to Stockholm, where he faces an investigation into allegations of sexually assaulting two women.

"We have heard today from one of my US lawyers, yet to be confirmed, but a serious matter , that there may be a US indictment of espionage for me, coming from a US grand jury investigation,'' said Assange, after his release on conditional bail on Thursday evening.

Bradley Manning, the former US intelligence analyst suspected of leaking the diplomatic cables to WikiLeaks, has been held at a military base in Virginia state and faces court martial and, perhaps, up to 52 years in jail, if found guilty.

Restricted to staying at a friend's 10-bedroom property and reporting to a police station daily, Assange described his prison as a "black hole''.

Although he can't move out he has access to the internet and remaind defiant. "I hope to continue my work and to continue to protest my innocence in this (the Swedish) matter and to reveal, as we get it, as we have not yet, the evidence from these allegations.''

Interestingly, soon after being granted bail, it was revealed that in 2004 Assange may have hacked into details via the internet of a 19-year-old girl he had met in Melbourne . This woman described him as socially awkward. This rather delayed disclosure gives rise to speculation whether the US security community is behind this.

Assange insisted to television interviewers that he was being subjected to a smear campaign. Assange also claimed to have information that more "smears" were on their way. He didn't go into detail.

Although Assange promised to focus on clearing his name, he said his first priority was to his work– which he said would continue at a faster pace now that he was back in charge. " Now that I am back to assist the directing of our ship, our work will proceed in a faster manner," he said.

Assange enjoyed a celebratory drink at a journalist's pad in central London , known as the Frontline Club.

Modi, Uma Bharti taunt Rahul for remarks on Hindu terror

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday made a scathing attack on AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for his comments against Hindu terror groups.

Modi, Uma Bharti taunt Rahul for remarks on Hindu terror

Taunting Rahul Gandhi for making "irresponsible" remarks Modi told reporters that he has to go through the cables but added, "I have been wondering for a long time now that the whole world believes that Pakistan is a terrorist state, yet the US always backs the country. I always wondered about this but never got an answer. However, yesterday after the cables were out, it got clear that who gave inspiration to the US to speak pro-Pakistan."

Meanwhile, former BJP leader Uma Bharti said that Rahul should act maturely. "Rahul is taking notes from Digvijay Singh...Rahul should take class from me, should study a bit. He should not make irresponsible comments", Bharti said, claiming that Digvijay was teaching Rahul to make statements against RSS to garner support of Muslims to get their vote.

"Congress is an irresponsible party. It creates terrorism and seeks votes in its name," stated Uma on Saturday, Dec 18.

The former BJP leader also added, "LTTE was patronised by Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and the organisation ultimately took the life of Rajiv in a tragic incident."

Stating about Rahul's remark on "Saffron terror", Uma claimed, "Rahul is taking notes from Digvijay Singh...Rahul should take class from me, should study a bit..He should not make irresponsible comments."

New Delhi: Rahul feels Hindu radicals bigger threat than Lashkar; Sonia Gandhi is Ms Opportunist, while Prakash Karat is an extortionist, according to the latest reports from the WikiLeaks cables.

Kicking up a political storm in the country, a leaked US diplomatic cable quotes Rahul Gandhi as saying that Hindu radical groups pose a bigger threat to India than the Lashkar-e-Toiba as they create "religious tensions" with the Muslim community.

Another US cable, put out by WikiLeaks, criticises Sonia Gandhi's leadership in the run-up to the civil nuclear Bill in Parliament in 2007 and describes CPM leader Prakash Karat as an "extortionist".

In a conversation with US Ambassador Timothy Roemer in July last year, Rahul Gandhi is quoted as saying that while there is evidence of local support for the LeT in India, the greater threat for the country is the growth of radicalism within the Hindu community.

"Responding to the Ambassador's query about Lashkar-e-Toiba's activities in the region and immediate threat to India, Gandhi said there was evidence of some support for the group among certain elements in India's indigenous Muslim community.

However, Gandhi warned, the bigger threat may be the growth of radicalized Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community," stated the leaked cable. The cable is based on a conversation between Roemer and Rahul on July 20 last year during a lunch hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for visiting Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Roemer has commented that the Congress leader was referring to the "tensions created by some of the more polarizing figures in the BJP" like Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

WikiLeaks on Rahul, Sonia and Karat

"The risk of a "home-grown" extremist front, reacting to terror attacks coming from Pakistan or from Islamist groups in India, was a growing concern and one that demanded constant attention," the cable quoted Rahul as saying.

In another cable on the political situation in the country in the run-up to the civil nuclear Bill in Parliament, Sonia Gandhi is described as someone who "never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity to show real leadership". The critical analysis comments on Sonia's failure to show "principled leadership".

"With the future of Indian foreign credibility hanging in balance, Sonia Gandhi has been unable to show principled leadership even when it might benefit her party at the polls and reveal Prakash Karat to be the extortionist he is. Mrs Gandhi never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity," stated a note dated November 6, 2007.

On the other hand, the detailed account of Roemer's conversation with the young Congress leader goes on to reveal that Rahul thought the "honeymoon period" of the UPA was over.

WikiLeaks on Rahul, Sonia and Karat

"Gandhi expressed concerns about the numerous challenges regarding the UPA's ability to implement its programs in Parliament. He said that the honeymoon period had been short and he now expected the BJP and Left Parties would be unrelenting critics of the government's program," the cable stated.

In his comments about the meeting, Roemer wrote that Gandhi was "forthright" in "describing the challenges faced by the Congress Party and the UPA government in the months ahead" and emphasised that the US Embassy would seek more opportunities to interact with him.

"Over the past four years, he was an elusive contact, but he could be interested in reaching out to the United States, given a thoughtful, politically sensitive and strategic approach on our part," the cable stated.

According to the cable, Gandhi told Roemer that his focus was on finding younger party members who "would not carry some of the baggage of older Congress candidates."

"He aimed at rebuilding party structures in small towns and rural areas to attract voters and believed the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was vulnerable there. He did not seem to be as focused on electoral efforts in bigger cities, such as Delhi and Mumbai," the cable stated.

Under fire from Parivar, Rahul says all forms of terror a threat to India

With the BJP attacking the Congress over Rahul Gandhi's remarks to US Ambassador Timothy Roemer that suggested "radicalised Hindu groups" constituted a "bigger threat" than the Lashkar-e-Toiba, the ruling party fumbled for words to explain.

While the immediate Congress reaction was to dismiss the revelations in a leaked US cable as a "conspiracy", it made a course correction later in the day, releasing a statement from Rahul.

"Rahul Gandhi's view is that terrorism and communalism of all types is a threat to India. We need to remain vigilant against acts of terrorism of all kinds, no matter who commits them," Congress media department chairman Janardan Dwivedi said.

Hours earlier, Dwivedi had said: "Let us verify the truth. May be there is some conspiracy behind the pattern with which all this is being done."

"We will respond to it after verifying the facts. There is no reason to react in an excited manner. The issue should first be looked into and verified," said party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi, adding "I am not questioning anything and I am questioning everything."

These reactions were, however, retracted later as Rahul himself attempted to clear the air. The embarrassing disclosure by the WikiLeaks is set to cast its shadow on the party's plenary session starting from Sunday.

The BJP and Sangh Parivar slammed Rahul, saying his remarks "legitimised" the anti-India propaganda of Pakistan-backed terror outfits and "weakened" New Delhi' war against terror.

WikiLeaks on Rahul, Sonia and Karat

The BJP said that Rahul, by identifying Hindu radical groups as bigger threats, had contradicted his own government's line as PM Manmohan Singh had often classified Maoism and terror emanating from Pakistan as the biggest internal security threats.

His "utterly irresponsible" comments underscore his "ignorance and lack of understanding" about India and its problems, the BJP said.

"It shows how little he knows about India," BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said. "In one stroke, Rahul Gandhi gave legitimacy to the propaganda of Pakistani terror groups against India. They have been talking on the same lines. He has given a big leverage to the propaganda of terror groups operating from Pakistan and certain segments of the Pakistani establishment," Prasad said. Some leaders like Vinay Katiyar even sought an apology.

The RSS, which has been under attack from the Congress for the alleged involvement of some of its functionaries in bomb blasts, and the VHP too hit out at Rahul.

RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav said a race was on among senior Congress leaders to "directly or indirectly support jehadi terror groups and to project Hindus as terrorists".

He said Rahul was making "wild charges" against Hindus. "Going to a foreign ambassador and talking with him about India's internal issues is most shocking," Madhav said.

'Inept' Shivraj Patil was protected by Sonia: US cables

New Delhi: After 26/11, the US felt that the removal of "spectacularly inept" Shivraj Patil as Home Minister was inevitable although he had been "protected" by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi despite being found "asleep on the watch" during earlier terror strikes in various cities.

'Inept' Shivraj Patil was protected by Sonia: US cables

According to a US diplomatic cable made public by Wikileaks, the then Ambassador David Mulford said Congress was "desperately seeking to limit the damage" as it was in a "deep political trouble" over its handling of the Mumbai attacks on November 26, 2008.

"In this environment, removal of the Home Minister was inevitable. He has over the last four years proved himself to be spectacularly inept," the cable said.

Mulford pointed out that in almost every incident of terrorist or communal violence - Bangalore, Ahemdabad, Jaipur, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Guwahati, Samjhauta Express, Orissa, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir - he has been "asleep on the watch".

"Each time there have been calls for his ouster but Sonia Gandhi has protected him. The public's reaction to the Mumbai incidents has been such that even she could not save him this time," the cable said.

The cable, posted in 'The Guardian', said the firing of Patil and other changes were "all intended" to convey a political message to the public that the UPA takes the Mumbai attacks seriously.

'Inept' Shivraj Patil was protected by Sonia: US cables

"It may be too little too late, however, for the Congress Party to reverse its fortunes before May 2009 (during Lok Sabha polls)," Mulford said.

Mulford, however, was not sure whether heads of top civil servants would roll but observed "the discipline and culture of Indian bureaucracy is such that if these men stay on they will continue to wield power and would not be treated as damaged goods by the rest of the government".

He noted that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would have to "balance the pressure for heads to roll with the fact that getting rid of NSA (M K) Narayanan, Home Secretary (Madhukar) Gupta and Intelligence Bureau chief (P C) Haldar would mean he will be left with a completely new intelligence team that will take time to settle in, not an attractive prospect to govern within the last few months of his term".

The cable also talked about a possible "political shake-out" in Maharashtra and pointed out that an "active faction" in the state's Congress that has long been plotting to oust the then Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

It also took notice of the "scathing media ridicule" of Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil when he played down the Mumbai attacks that these sorts of incidents happen from time to time in a big city such as Mumbai.

Week that was: Rahul to Radia & Wen to Warne

The week that started on December 13 started with a high-profile raid and ended with a Rahul Gandhi bang.

Week that was: Rahul to Radia & Wen to Warne

After a brief winter hibernation following the massive defeat in Bihar Assembly elections, Congress party general secretary Rahul Gandhi was back in the news this week, thanks to WikiLeaks. In fresh WikiLeaks cables released by 'The Guardian' on December 17, Rahul is quoted saying that Hindu extremists posed a greater threat to India than Muslim militants.

Rahul made these comments to US ambassador to India Tim Roemer in a luncheon meeting recently, according to WiliLeaks.

He warned Timothy Roemer that although "there was evidence of some support for (Islamic terrorist group Laskar-e-Taiba) among certain elements in India's indigenous Muslim community, the bigger threat may be the growth of radicalised Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community".

The cable goes on to say: "Responding to the Ambassador's query about Lashkar-e-Taiba's activities in the region and immediate threat to India, Gandhi said there was evidence of some support for the group among certain elements in India's indigenous Muslim community. However, Gandhi warned, the bigger threat may be the growth of radicalized Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community."

Rahul's comments are in tune with the view held by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram who had earlier cautioned state police forces, security and intelligence officials on the rise of 'saffron terrorism'.

The BJP promptly slammed Rahul saying he was only helping Pakistan.

2G scam: Supreme Court steps in

On December 16, the Supreme Court ruled that it will monitor the probe into the 2G spectrum scam and broadened the scope of the investigations to cover the grant of licences by both the NDA and the UPA regimes between 2001 and 2007.

Holding that prima facie "serious irregularities" have been found in the issue of 122 licences, the court delivered a seven-point direction to the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) saying it was satisfied that allegations need a thorough and impartial investigation.

It referred to the petition and the affidavits filed by an NGO and said these were supported by documents and also the CVC report and the findings by the CAG in the Performance Audit Report pointing to a presumptive loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore.

A Bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly asked both the probe agencies to conduct a comprehensive and coordinated investigation by sharing information "without being influenced by any functionary, agency or instrumentality of the State and irrespective of the position, rank or status of the person to be investigated/probed" and submit reports in sealed covers on February 10, 2011.

It asked the Director General, Income Tax (Investigation) to hand over the transcripts of the recording made pursuant to the approval accorded by the Home Secretary, to CBI to facilitate further investigation into the FIR already registered or which may be registered hereinafter.

The Bench said CBI investigation will also cover the allegation of grant of huge loans by the public sector and other banks to some of the companies which have succeeded in obtaining licences in 2008.

On December 15, the CBI raided 34 premises including those of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, former TRAI Chairman Pradip Baijal, siblings of ex-Telecom Minister A Raja and an NGO linked to DMK MP Kanimozhi in the case relating to allocation of 2G spectrum at throwaway prices in 2008.

India gives China a mild shock

In a subtle, yet strong signal to China for not treating Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India, the Indian side on December 16 held back its explicit commitment to the 'One China' policy for the first time in, at least, the last four summit-level joint statements. Instead, the principle of "mutual respect and sensitivity for each other's concerns and aspirations" was stated alongside the Panchsheel as the basis for carrying forward strategic cooperation.

The joint communiqué, issued following deliberations between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, also left out the routine Indian comfort line to China that it recognizes the Tibet Autonomous Region as part of Chinese territory. This, despite the fact that in previous statements India has gone to the extent of ensuring that it will not allow protests against the "One China principle".

The new addition this time reflected what India has been saying since the Chinese side conveyed that the Northern Army Commander would need a stapled visa -- a respect for India's "sensitivities" just like India has been doing all these years.

"The two sides decided to enhance strategic communication, advance functional cooperation, broaden cultural exchanges, and deepen and enrich the India-China Strategic and Cooperative Partnership for Peace and Prosperity on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, mutual respect and sensitivity for each other's concerns and aspirations."

Meanwhile Wen backed greater international role for India and said Beijing and New Delhi should seize opportunities to expand converging interests.

"As a fast growing big country with over a billion people, India should and can play an increasingly important role in international affairs," he said addressing the Indian Council of World Affairs.

Describing the India-China boundary question as a "historical legacy", Wen Jiabao said that the two sides have agreed to set up a working mechanism for consultation and coordination on border affairs. This, he said, will help "enhance mutual trust" and maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas.

Delivering a lecture at the Indian Council of World Affairs, Wen said, "The China-India boundary question is a historical legacy. It will not be easy to completely resolve this question. It requires patience and will take a fairly long period of time. Only with sincerity, mutual trust, perseverance can we eventually find a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution."

Week that was: Rahul to Radia & Wen to Warne

The Chinese Premier made no mention of the Mumbai terror attacks during his 35-minutes speech.

Wen Jiabao was on a three-day visit to India and was accompanied by the biggest delegation ever of 400 businessmen, senior ministers and officials, Wen began with a meeting with the business community followed by a visit to the Tagore International School to interact with children who are learning the Chinese language.

India is the first leg of Wen's two-nation trip. He went to Pakistan on Dec 17.

2G: CBI raids Radia, former TRAI chairman, Raja's relatives

Radia's office -- Vaishnavi Corporate Communications in Central Delhi -- and her farm house in South Delhi were among the first of the premises to be searched by the CBI, sources said, adding some of the people who had handled accounts and funds of former Telecom Minister A Raja were also been searched by the agency.

Radia, Baijal and alleged hawala dealers - brothers Mahesh Jain and Alok Jain alias Bobby -- were questioned during the raids, sources said. A CBI spokesperson said in the evening 34 premises in the country were raided during the day and several incriminating documents were recovered.

The raids come a week after the searches in the residences of Raja in Delhi and in his native place Perambalur and a number of others. The residence of Baijal, who retired in 2006 after serving as TRAI chairman for nearly three years, was being also searched in connection with the scam in which the CBI has registered a case alleging a loss of Rs 22,000 crore.

An IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Baijal, is currently working with Radia's firm Noesis. The allegation against him was that as the chairman of the regulatory body, which makes recommendations to government, he had helped some telecom firms.

Apart from Radia, the searches were carried out in the premises of Baijal in nearby Noida, Kamaraj, Associate Editor of Tamil magazine in Chennai 'Nakkeran', Raja's brother and sister near Tiruchirappalli and Tamil Maiyam and an NGO in which Kanimozhi is on the board of directors.

Week that was: Rahul to Radia & Wen to Warne

Tamil Maiyam, which describes itself as a registered Indian non-profit organisation, is headed by Reverend Jegath Gasper Raj. Sources said the searches were carried out to find out the probable links between alleged hawala operators and former Telecom Minister A Raja, whose premises were being searched today in Perambalur.

Kamraj and the Jain brothers have been under the scanner of the CBI for some time in connection with the investigations into the scam. An export office in Chawri Bazar in Delhi was also searched by the CBI, the sources said, adding the firm is alleged to have been used for transfer of funds.

About 150 sleuths of the investigating agency swooped down at 34 places in Tamil Nadu and seven in Delhi in the wee hours and began searches which included some auditors and accountants of Raja.

A former IAS officer of 1966 batch, Baijal was the first Disinvestment Secretary after the ministry was formed. The CBI had on December 8 carried out searches at the residence of Raja and his four close associates including his personal secretary R K Chandolia in connection with the scam.

47-year-old Raja was forced to resign as minister on November 14 in the wake of the CAG's report that the rates at which 2G spectrum was allotted resulted in a possible loss to the exchequer to the tune of Rs 1.76 lakh crore.

Raids were also conducted at the residences of former Telecom Secretary Siddarth Behura, Chandolia, Member Telecom Commission K Sridhar and Deputy Director General in the Department of Telecom A K Srivastava. Raja has maintained that he was ready for interrogation by the CBI any time.

The CBI had registered a case on October 21, 2009 against unknown Department of Telecom officials and private persons and companies for allegedly causing a loss of Rs 22,000 crore to the exchequer.

Judges in a muddle over Raja

A big fight broke out among senior judges in the week under review. Facing criticism on the controversy surrounding former minister A Raja allegedly attempting to influence a Madras High Court judge, former CJI K G Balakrishnan on on Dec 15 insisted that the minister's name was not mentioned by Justice H L Gokhale in his report.

Joining issue with sitting Supreme Court judge Gokhale, who contradicted him on Dec 14, Balakrishnan issued a statement saying there was no question of suppressing the report of the then Chief Justice of the Madras High Court (Gokhale).

The former CJI, however, did not refer to the letter written by Justice R Reghupathi, who was approached by a lawyer taking the name of Raja for securing bail to an accused in a criminal case, to Gokhale in which he had taken Raja's name.

The controversy has refused to die with Gokhale issuing a statement flatly contradicting Balakrishnan's claim at a press conference last week that his letter did not name Raja.

Gokhale pointed out that Reghupathi's letter was already with the CJI and in the second para of that letter, the judge had specifically mentioned Raja's name.

TIME names Mark Zuckerberg 'Person of Year'

Time magazine named Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg "person of the year" on Dec 15, ignoring a push by readers of the magazine for WikiLeaks maestro Julian Assange to take the honor.

Zuckerberg, only 26, is the second youngest person named to the cover of Time's ritual annual. Managing editor Richard Stengel said Zuckerberg's social networking service was "transforming the way we live our lives every day."

The runners-up chosen by Time were the conservative US Tea Party movement that made a big impact in recent midterm elections, followed by Assange. Assange, currently on bail in London on Swedish sexual assault charges, is at the center of a global uproar over his organization's leaking of secret US diplomatic cables.

Readers of Time magazine had voted overwhelmingly for him to be named "person of the year," followed by Lady Gaga, the US singer best known for her elaborate costumes. But Stengel said that Facebook has turned into a global influence of unprecedented scope.

"For connecting more than half-a-billion people and mapping the social relations among them (something that has never been done before); for creating a new system of exchanging information that has become both indispensable and sometimes a little scary; and finally, for changing how we all live our lives in ways that are innovative and even optimistic, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is Time's 2010 Person of the Year," Stengel said in a statement.

Stengel described Zuckerberg, a Harvard dropout, as the equivalent of a "T-shirt-wearing head of state." In an interview on NBC television, Stengel said Zuckerberg was "humbled" and "deeply affected" by the award.

Farewell: Richard Holbrooke

Richard C. Holbrooke America's high profile diplomatic trouble shooter and Obama administration's point man in the war torn Afghan-Pakistani region has died after surgery to repair a tear in his aorta. He was 69.

One of the world's most recognizable diplomats, Holbrooke's five decade long career spanned from the Vietnam War era to the war against the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, coinciding with presidencies of John
F. Kennedy to Barack Obama.

Holbrooke, who spearheaded the end of the Bosnian war, died on Dec 13 at George Washington University Hospital where he was admitted last Friday after feeling ill at Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's office during an ongoing review of the situation in the Af-Pak region.

Obama called Holbrooke 'a true giant of American foreign policy who has made America stronger, safer, and more respected.'

'Tonight, there are millions of people around the world whose lives have been saved and enriched by his work,' Obama said in a statement.

Holbrooke was best known for being 'the chief architect of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement' that ended the Bosnian war -- the deadly ethnic conflict in the 1990s that erupted during the breakup of Yugoslavia.

King's XI gets a life

Indian Cricket Board suffered another set back on Dec 15 when a division bench of the Bombay High Court upheld the order of its single bench, Justice S F Vazifdar, to stay the termination of Indian Premier League franchise King's XI Punjab by the BCCI.

The two-member Division Bench of Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Anoop Mohata ruled that the entire basis of the letter of termination issued by the BCCI to the Mohali franchise was "erroneous and flawed".

"It is abundantly clear that BCCI wanted to terminate the contract on the basis of what was factually incorrect. Termination was anything but fair and was wholly arbitrary," observed the Court.

The order means the Mohali franchise can take part in the BCCI's players auction to be held on January 8 and 9. The Division Bench cited seven circumstances which supported the decision of the single bench.

Elizabeth Hurley, Shane Warne confirm their 'single status'

After British actress Elizabeth Hurley confirmed that she ended her marriage with Indian businessman Arun Nayar "months ago", her alleged new flame Australian cricketer Shane Warne too clarified this week his relationship status.

While both kept mum on their affair, Hurley and Warne used similar phrases to say that they are single. "Not a great day. For the record, my husband Arun & I separated a few months ago. Our close family & friends were aware of this (sic)," Hurley wrote on her twitter page on Dec 12.

The cricket legend took to his official website on Dec 15 to clarify that he is no longer with wife Simone Callahan. "Sadly and unfortunately, Simone and I split up a while ago, our close friends and family were informed at that time. It is a private matter so we did not make it public. We remain friends and will continue to be good parents."

Their affair came to light after Hurley, 45, and Warne, 41, were photographed kissing and embracing at a hotel in London.

News of the World claimed to have a video and pictures of Hurley and Warne sharing a series of steamy clinches and claimed the actress had spent two nights with the cricketer, who is infamous for his womanising ways.

According to the Daily Mail, Nayar, 46, was spotted looking unhappy as he puffed a cigarette outside the couple's country home in Gloucestershire. Warne's ex-wife Simone said, "I don't want to talk right now, thank you."

Facebook named best US employer

Social networking site Facebook is just as popular among its employees as it is among its users. The Silicon Valley start-up was named the best US employer Wednesday by employment website Glassdoor.com, which conducted a survey among its users.

The company was so small last year that it did not even feature on the annual list, which was topped by Southwest Airlines in the past two years.

But Facebook has been growing rapidly by poaching employees from rivals like Apple and Google.

Besides offering handsome salaries and princely benefits, Facebook also offers employees the real prospect of becoming millionaires when the company, which is valued at $43 billion, goes public.

Many employees have already joined the elite millionaires' club by selling their shares in the company to private investors.

Facebook's overall satisfaction rating among employees signed on to Glassdoor was 4.6 out of 5. Just behind Facebook were Southwest Airlines, with 4.4 out of 5, and Bain & Company, with 4.3 out of 5.

The Glassdoor survey was based on eight criteria including work/life balance, recognition and, of course, compensation and benefits.
