'US behind Mideast crackdowns' "And do not forget readers that the  Queen's Monarchical Britain is now militarily  involved yet again!!! The Queen is Commander-in-Chief of Britain's military. I say to her and  HER Government (which she keeps reminding the world at the opening of parliament and etc.) you are NOT the World's Policeman, contrary to what you might arrogantly think". Senior Iranian cleric and Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati

A senior Iranian cleric condemns the hypocritical Western stance toward the Islamic awakening in the region, slamming the US for encouraging crackdowns on popular protests.

"The US on the one hand urges for exercising restraint and on the other hand, with its uncalled for meddling, paves the way for regional rulers to commit their crimes," Tehran's interim Friday Prayers leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said, referring to the violent suppression of anti-regime protests in Bahrain, IRNA reported.

"[In] this country where the absolute majority is Shia -- and for the very charge of being Shias their rights have been violated for years -- they (Bahrainis) realized they could revolt like in other Muslim countries," he went on to say.

"When their unpopular government realized they would lose, they turned to Saudi Arabia to crack down on people and they (Saudis) dispatch armies," the cleric pointed out.

Ayatollah Jannati highlighted the peaceful nature of the protests in Bahrain and questioned, "Why are the advocates of democracy so fearful of the people's presence now?"

"No international law allows such military deployments to repress the people of other countries," he stated.

Ayatollah Jannati further addressed the violent crackdown on Libyans by Muammar Gaddafi loyalists.

"These people tolerated such a crazy man for years until they ran out of patience and revolted…Gaddafi, like the Zionist regime [of Israel] which [targets] Palestinians, targeted his own people," he said.

The Iranian cleric pointed to the responsibility of Muslim scholars regarding the crimes committed against regional nations and called on the clergy and heads of state "to help return these people's (Bahrainis) rights."

"People who have undergone Islamic awakening resent oppression and God willing the movement of these people will go ahead and sweep through US borders," he added.
