Tahrir - popular uprisings at our doors

02/01/2012
Anti-imperialist Camp, Assisi, Italy, August 7-10, 2012

We meet at the Anti-imperialist Camp in Assisi where the voices of the Arab resistances and uprisings will merge with the beginning uprisings of Europe. Without rebellion no liberation!

The fall of tyrants like Ben Ali and Mubarak marks a turning point in history. After a long period of lethargy, the peoples of the Middle East have once again raised their heads.

The imperial powers had taken advantage of this passivity and had swept away by brute force any obstacle to their total dominance. However, from Iraq to Afghanistan, from Lebanon to Palestine, the American war machine was facing stiff resistance. Some had to accept defeats while others continue to defy the hubris of the masters of the world.

Imperial power was based not only on the state of Israel but also on satraps of Mubarak's type. Their role was precisely to keep the peoples down, to prevent them from unifying with the resistance movements, in order to defeat them.

As their domination is faltering, the imperialists are trying by all means to impose new puppets. While the popular masses continue their onslaught on the old regimes, Washington & Co try to embrace them intending to transform them into "colour revolutions" or even intervene militarily as in Libya or as cannot be excluded for Syria, Lebanon or Iran as well.

These plans must be foiled. The popular uprisings must not be left alone, and we condemn all those forces who sold out to imperialism and Zionism or are ready to do so.

Meanwhile the working people and the youth of Europe are faced with similar tasks as their Arab brothers and sisters. The unprecedented economic crisis forces them to overcome their apathy, to resist, to fight.

The crisis of the west does not only consist in a loss of hegemony across the globe, but also in dwindling stability at home. Few countries will be spared from the socio-economic disaster. Also for Europe and the west, this is the dawn of a new historic period. The peoples of Europe are called upon to gather the momentum emerging from the Arab people. Either we are able to take the fate of our societies in our own hands or we are doomed to fall back into slavery.

We meet at the Anti-imperialist Camp in Assisi where the voices of the Arab resistances and uprisings will merge with the beginning uprisings of Europe.

Without rebellion no liberation!
