Sub: For investigation and necessary action on a case of alleged
sexual assault, molestation and humiliation of a woman Mrs Shreemati
Gop W/0 Mr. Sanjay Gope resident of Lopoghotu comes under Mufasil
Police station (Chaibasa) by the CRPF Jawan Md. Shafiq.

Dear Sir,

With due respect, I would like to bring your kind attention on a case
of alleged Sexual assault, molestation and humiliation of a 20
year-old woman Mrs. Shreemati Gope by the Jawan Md. Shafiq of 174
battalion of the CRPF.

Case details:
A 20 year-old woman Mrs. Shreemati Gope W/o – Mr. Sanjay Gope resident
of Lopoghotu comes under Mufasil Police station (Chaibasa) of West
Singhbhum district in Jharkhand was sexually assaulted, molested and
humiliated by the CRPF Jawan Md. Shafiq of 174 battalion of the CRPF
on 24 September, 2012.

The incident took place in the morning at Salihatu village when Mrs.
Shreemati gope had gone to bathe in a stream. When she was taking
bath, a CRPF Jawan Md. Shafiq arrived to the spot. And when Md. Shafiq
saw Mrs. Shreemati Gope alone, he assaulted her sexually, molested and
humiliated. However, Mrs. Shreemati Gope could escape, when other
women reached to the spot for bathing.

When this news spread across the vicinity, there was a huge protest
against the CRPF Jawans. Hence, the FIR was filed against the CRPF
Jawan Md. Shafiq but no action was taken against him. After this
incident Mrs. Shreemati gope has been suffering from the mental
distress and forced to stay inside her home. After this incident, the
female folk are completely afraid of the CRPF Jawans in the region.

Hence, it is a clear case of Sexual assault, molestation and
humiliation of Mrs. Shreemati Gope therefore, I request the National
Human Rights Commission for the following actions.
1. A high level inquiry should be established on a case of sexual
assault, molestation and humiliation of Mrs. Shreemati Gope.
2. A legal action should be taken against the Jawan and he should be
arrested and dismissed from the job immediately.
3. The victim Mrs. Shreemati Gope should be provided counseling and
other support along with compensation.
4. The NHRC should order the government to provide human rights
education to the CRPF Jawans.
