Mamata Maoist, says hacked site

Calcutta, Aug. 14: The official website of the Trinamul Congress was hacked this evening and a message on the "Chairperson Speaks" page read: "I AM A MAOIST at heart and always have been."

A Trinamul leader said the message was seen late in the evening and a "complaint was lodged immediately at Kalighat police station".

Trinamul sources said the party's cyber cell started restoring the page as soon as the concocted message was detected. "It was really shocking. Had the message been on the home page, it would have been spotted within minutes. But the hackers selected an inside page and so it took some time to get noticed," the leader said.

According to the police, the page was restored within an hour.

The cyber crime cell at Lalbazar said they suspected a group called Anonymous India to be behind the hacking.

"This group was also responsible for hacking the portals of the CID and the state health department. Investigation is on to find out if the offence was committed in Calcutta," a senior officer said.
